Home-style macaroni and cheese. Approximately 40 minutes cooking time.

Recipe Ingredients for Home-Style Macaroni & Cheese

7 oz. uncooked elbow macaroni
1/4 c. butter
3 tbsp. all-purpose flour
2 c. milk
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 tsp. Dijon mustard (country style, if possible)
2 c. cheddar cheese, cut into 1/2" cubes
1 c. fresh bread crumbs
2 tbsp. butter, melted
2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley

Recipe Directions for Home-Style Macaroni & Cheese

  1. Heat oven to 400 F (200 C).

  2. Cook macaroni according to package directions, and drain.

  3. Meanwhile, in 3 quart saucepan, melt 1/4 cup butter.

  4. Stir flour into butter.

  5. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until smooth and bubbly (about 1 minute).

  6. Stir in milk, cream cheese, salt, pepper, and mustard.

  7. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until sauce is thickened (3 to 4 minutes).

  8. Stir in macaroni and cheese cubes.

  9. Pour into a 2-qt. (2-L) casserole dish.

  10. In a small bowl, stir together remaining ingredients.

  11. Sprinkle over the macaroni and cheese.

  12. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through.
