Another hand mixed instant soup -- makes 35 -52g servings to be sealed in ziplocks and rehydrated with approx. 12oz boiling water (see instructions)

Recipe Ingredients for Home-made Instant Zip-lock Tamale Soup (35 servings)

16 oz cornmeal
20 oz dried pinto beans
6 oz dried tomato
4 oz chili powder
6 oz vegetable bouillon
2 t cumin
1 t garlic powder
3 oz salt
1 oz dried minced onion
2 T dried oregano
8 oz dried corn
1 t pepper
1 t pepper

Recipe Directions for Home-made Instant Zip-lock Tamale Soup (35 servings)

  1. Note 1: the recipe calls for "cornmeal" only because the database did not recognize "instant grits" (or any kind of grits) as an ingredient

  2. Note 2: the recipe calls for 1t of pepper - twice. The first should read "dried powdered chipotle pepper", and the second should read "dried powdered jalapeno pepper". If either of these is unavailable, substitute more chili powder.

  3. Note 3: The dried tomato can be either powder or flaked, or a combination.

  4. Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Measure 52g into each of 35 ziplocks. (best to seal many in a larger back or a vaccuum sealed bag and freeze.) Put one pouch of soup mix into a 14-16oz microwavable bowl and add 12oz boiling water. (more or less to desired consistancy)

  5. Add 1/2 oz shredded cheddar or other sharp cheese if desired. (not included in calculations)
