This is good served with brown rice or iceberg lettuce lined bowls, inlaid with whole wheat tortilla cips. A lovely garnish is grated cheese.

Recipe Ingredients for home made chili

1 lb lean ground beef
796 ml canned tomatos
1 c raw black eye peas
1 c raw red kidney beans
3 tbsps chili powder
1 green pepper
1 cup celery
1 cup mushrooms
1 carrot
1 onion
2 cloves garlic
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp oregano
796 ml tomato juice
1 tbsp olive oil

Recipe Directions for home made chili

  1. Soak beans for 3 to 6 hours, then drain , put in pot, cover with cold water and simmer for 90 minutes.

  2. Brown beef and drain off fat.

  3. Chop all vegetables finely, sweat them off in a bit of olive oil..for ten minutes.

  4. Add seasonings , beef, tomatos and juice.

  5. Drain cooked beans and add.

  6. Simmer for 30 minutes at least..all afternoon is better.

  7. Serve as desired.
