A hearty vegetable and meat chili con carne made from scratch; low in salt and very tasty!

Recipe Ingredients for Home made Chili

4 cups kidney beans
4 cups diced tomatoes
1 large onion
16 oz mushrooms
1 lb extra lean ground beef
2 cups water
3 cups broccoli
3 cloves garlic
2 tsp salt
2 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp chili powder
2 tbsp molasses
2 large green peppers

Recipe Directions for Home made Chili

  1. In a large sauce pan, sauté onions, garlic, and mushrooms.

  2. Thaw ground beef, season (optional), and add to the onions, etc.

  3. Pour these ingredients into a larger pan (much larger), and add kidney beans, tomatoes, and green peppers.

  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

  5. Add salt, black pepper, chili powder, molasses, and water.

  6. Steam broccoli and add to mix.

  7. Simmer for 20 minutes.

  8. Serve over rice or in a bread bowl. You may want to season individual servings with additional salt/spices, as so desired.
