Family tradition for special occasions. I prefer using handfulls of fresh cranberries but you can use dried cranberries or raisins

Recipe Ingredients for Holiday Morning French Toast

1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup margarine or butter, melted
3 tsp cinnamon, divided
3 tart apples, such as Granny Smith, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
1/2 cup cranberries
16 oz bread, french or italian, 1 loaf cut into 1-inch slices
6 large eggs
1 1/2 cups milk, 1%
1 tbsp vanilla extract

Recipe Directions for Holiday Morning French Toast

  1. Mix brown sugar, butter and 1 tsp cinnamon in 13x9-inch baking dish. Add apples and cranberries; stir to coat well. Spread evenly in bottom of baking dish. Arrange slices of bread on top.

  2. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla, and remaining 2 tsp cinnamon until well blended. Pour over bread, soaking bread completely. Cover with foil. Refrigerate 4 hours or up to 24 hours.

  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake, covered, 45 minutes. Uncover and bake additional 5 minutes.
