Hearty Oatmeal Recipe

Makes 4 servings



Instead of all flaxseed, I use a mix of 1/3 each flaxseed meal, wheat germ and oat bran.

Recipe Ingredients for Hearty Oatmeal

1 c steel cut oats
1/4 c flaxseed, ground
1 c 1% milk
4 c water
1 tsp salt
1 oz walnuts, chopped
1 oz pecans, chopped
1 oz raisins
1 oz dried cherries
1 oz dried cranberries
1 oz dried apricots, chopped
1 oz prunes, chopped
1 tsp butter
1 tsp honey
1/4 tsp cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Hearty Oatmeal

  1. Combine oats, flaxseed, milk, water and salt; stir while bringing to boil over high heat; cover and reduce heat to low. Cook about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until oats are fully cooked.

  2. Stir in remaining ingredients, and adjust seasoning to taste.
