What should my heart rate be during exercise to lose weight?

How do I calculate where my target heart rate needs to be during exercise to know that I will be making the most of my exercise time to benefit my weight lose goals?


To burn more fat, you should exercise for a longer time at a lower intensity. Beginners should aim for a target heart rate between 60 and 65% of their personal maximum heart rate.  (The Guide to Exercise at About.com shows you how to calculate your heart rate.)  But over time, as your physical condition improves, you will need to alternate between low intensity exercise (slow heart rate) and high intensity exercise (fast heart rate) to maximize the number of calories you burn and to continuously improve your fitness level. Read more how to maximize your fat burning potential at About.com.
