Recipe Ingredients for Healthy Italian Herb Bread

1 1/2 tsp yeast
1 tbsp warm water
2/3 c skim milk
2 1/2 tsp sugar
1 tsp canola oil
1/2 tsp salt
1 c whole wheat flour
1 c all-purpose flour
1 egg
1/3 c skim milk powder
2 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder

Recipe Directions for Healthy Italian Herb Bread

  1. soften yeast in water

  2. heat milk, sugar, oil, and salt to 115* in a small saucepan

  3. in a bowl combine half of the whole wheat flour with the milk mixture mix until mostly combined then add the yeast and water

  4. mix in the milk powder, the egg, and the rest of the whole wheat flour stir till smooth

  5. add remaining flour and mix well

  6. turn the dough and any non-incorporated flour onto a lightly floured surface sprinkle with seasonings and knead until smooth and elastic

  7. shape dough into a ball and place in a oiled bowl cover and let rise for 45-60min

  8. punch down, remove from bowl and shape into a loaf place loaf in a greased loaf pan let the dough rise for 45-50 min

  9. put the pan in a 375* oven for 20-30 min or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped
