This is an old fashioned recipe from my husband's grandmother's family. Its simple, lo fat & very good. This is a very dense & filling bread.

Recipe Ingredients for Health Bread

1 cup raisins
1 cup boiling water
1 egg
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup All Bran cereal
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup milk
2 tbsp wheat germ

Recipe Directions for Health Bread

  1. Simmer raisins in boiling water for 5 minutes ? cool well (don?t drain).

  2. Beat together egg, sugar & salt. Stir flour & baking soda together, add to egg mixture along with oats, bran cereal and milk.

  3. Stir until mixture is almost moistened ? stir in raisins & liquid just until everything is moistened. Pour into greased & floured loaf pan. Sprinkle top with wheat germ if desired.

  4. Bake @ 350 degrees 45 min. to 1 hr or until bread tests done.
