Recipe Ingredients for HAWAIIAN MEATBALLS

1 lb. ground beef
1/2 c. cracker crumbs
1/3 c. minced onion
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. milk
1 tbsp. shortening
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 c. brown sugar
13 oz. pineapple tidbits
1/3 c. vinegar
1 tbsp. soy sauce
1/3 c. green pepper, chopped

Recipe Directions for HAWAIIAN MEATBALLS

  1. Drain pineapple, reserving liquid.

  2. Mix meat, crumbs, onion, egg, salt, ginger and milk.

  3. Shape mixture by rounded tablespoons into balls. Melt shortening in large skillet; brown and cook meatballs. Remove meatballs and keep warm.

  4. Pour fat from skillet.

  5. Mix cornstarch and sugar, stir in pineapple syrup, vinegar, and soy sauce until smooth.

  6. Pour into skillet; use medium heat, stirring constantly until thick and boiling.

  7. Cook 1 minute.

  8. Add meatballs, tidbits and green pepper. Heat thoroughly.

  9. Serve over hot cooked rice and hawaiian fruit on the side.
