If actually making this, cut ham down to 1.5 to 2 lbs. 3lbs was too much.

Recipe Ingredients for Ham Split Pea Soup

1 pound split peas
3 pounds ham
1 cup carrots
1 cup onion
1 cup celery
2 tablespoons butter
8 cups water
1 teaspoon garlic

Recipe Directions for Ham Split Pea Soup

Night before, soak split peas in water (two inches of water higher than peas). Chop onion, garlic, celery, carrots. Saute in butter until tender. Chop ham, add to pot. Drain peas, rinse, add to pot. Add 8 cups of water. Simmer for 1-2 hours until peas tender. Serve with biscuits or potatoes.
