This delicious dish hails from Haiti, located in the Caribbean.

Recipe Ingredients for Haitian Rice and Beans

1/2 tbsp salt
1 tsp cumin
1 tbsp cilantro, chopped
3 green onions, chopped
2 garlic cloves
1/4 tsp rosemary, dried
1 tbsp olive oil
1 cup brown rice
1 2/3 cup water
2 1/2 cups red beans

Recipe Directions for Haitian Rice and Beans

  1. In mortar or food processor, blend together salt, cilantro, onions, garic, and rosemary.

  2. Heat oil and seasoning blend in large saucepan over medium heat.

  3. Add rice and stir to coat with the blend, then add water. Bring to boil while stirring.

  4. Add beans; return to boil. Reduce heat, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes.

  5. Remove cover, stir, and cook for 5 minutes longer or until no liquid remains.
