This recipe closely follows the guacamole traditionally enjoyed in Mexico. While high in fat, guacamole provides a heart-healthy fat than should be enjoyed in moderation.

Recipe Ingredients for Guacamole

1 large avocado
1/2 large tomato
1/4 cup white onion
1/4 teaspoon salt

Recipe Directions for Guacamole

  1. Cut the avocado in half, scoop the seed out with a spoon and then scoop the avocado flesh into a small bowl. Use a fork to mash the avocado, leaving some small lumps.

  2. Dice the tomato and the onion very fine (about 1/4" x 1/4") and add them to the avocado.

  3. If you are adding a hot pepper, remove the seeds (or not) and chop it into very small pieces and add it now.

  4. Chop the cilantro and add to the bowl.

  5. Squeeze the lime juice into the mixture.

  6. Stir to mix well and then refrigerate until needed.
