This is my go-to recipe for pasta sauce. It works equally well with very lean ground beef. It's my take on Neapolitan Ragł.

Recipe Ingredients for Ground Turkey Ragł

1/4 cup olive oil, divided
30 ounces tomato sauce
6 garlic cloves, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup carrots, chopped
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 pound turkey, ground
30 ounces stewed tomatoes
2 teaspoons basil
2 teaspoons oregano
2 teaspoons italian seasoning
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon black pepper

Recipe Directions for Ground Turkey Ragł

  1. Over low-med heat, heat 2 tablespoons of the olive oil in a stock pot. Add garlic, onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until soft.

  2. Over low-medium heat, heat the remaining olive oil in a large skillet. Add tomato sauce. Cook until it thickens and browns-- about 20 minutes.

  3. Add turkey to the stock pot. Cook until brown.

  4. Add all remaining ingredients to the stock pot.

  5. Add tomato sauce/olive oil mixture to stock pot.

  6. Add 5 bay leaves.

  7. Simmer sauce over low heat for at least 30 minutes.

  8. Remove all bay leaves before serving.
