A vegetarian ground meat substitute that is tasty and filling. Can be flavored many different ways to replace ground meat in a recipe.

Recipe Ingredients for ground meat substitute

1 cup Rice, Brown, Long-grain
1 cup Lentils, Mature Seeds
3 tsp Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning
0.125 tsp Paprika
1/2 cup Old Fashioned Oats
1/4 cup Gold Medal Whole Wheat Flour
1 oz Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Recipe Directions for ground meat substitute

  1. Stir together brown rice, lentils and seasonings in a large saucepan. Cover with water by 2 inches and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes until the rice is beginning to soften. (You don't want the rice to be fully cooked) Drain off any remaining water.

  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the olive oil, oats and flour. Turn the mixture into a lightly sprayed 9 x 13 casserole dish. Spread the mixture evenly.

  3. Cook at 300 degrees F for about an hour, turning every 15 minutes.
