Recipe courtesy Giada De Laurentiis Difficulty: Easy Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 6 minutes Yield: 6 servings This is a nice change for lettuce. The grilling gives the romaine a hearty and sweet flavor which is unique and delicious.

Recipe Ingredients for Grilled Lettuces

2 tablespoons olive oil
3 heads Belgian endive, halved lengthwise
2 heads romaine lettuce, quartered
1 Salt, to taste
1 black pepper, freshly ground, to taste
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 ounces parmesan cheese, shaved

Recipe Directions for Grilled Lettuces

  1. Prepare the barbecue (medium-high heat).

  2. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of oil over the endive and romaine, then sprinkle with salt and pepper.

  3. Grill the lettuces until they are crisp-tender and browned in spots, turning occasionally, about 6 minutes.

  4. Coarsely chop the lettuces, then toss them in a large bowl with the remaining oil and vinegar.

  5. Season the salad, to taste, with more salt and pepper. Serve warm with shaved parmesan cheese..
