Recipe Ingredients for Green Bean Casserole

1 pound fresh green beans, washed, trimmed, cut in half
8 oz mushrooms
1/2 cup onions
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano (and/or thyme)
2 tsp chicken bouillon
2 cups water
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan Cheese
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
1/4 cup slivered almonds

Recipe Directions for Green Bean Casserole

  1. preheat oven to 400

  2. blanch green beans then soak in ice bath

  3. slice 1/2 cup of onion

  4. mince garlic and thyme

  5. melt butter in pot

  6. add mushrooms

  7. let mushrooms sweat 5 mins over medium high heat

  8. dd the garlic, red pepper flakes, and fresh herbs

  9. Cook this for a minute or two and then add your flour to the pan

  10. Once you have this roux ready, start slowing adding your chicken stock to the pot, stirring the whole time. Add in in a few batches and stir stir stir.

  11. add your onions and green beans and season with salt and pepper

  12. Lightly butter a casserole dish and then pile in your green bean mixture. Top it with some Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and slivered almonds.

  13. Bake this at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes. The crust should be nice and crispy and you might notice some of the gravy bubbling up.
