A great, hearty low-calorie alternative to store bought granola bars. The recipe is easily altered to suit your tastebuds by adding in dried fruit or peanut butter. Flavoring extracts can also be used for enhanced taste as well.

Recipe Ingredients for Granola Breakfast Bars

2 cups old fashioned oats, uncooked
1 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup toasted wheat germ
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup honey
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 large egg

Recipe Directions for Granola Breakfast Bars

  2. In a large bowl, with a wooden spoon, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, wheat germ, salt and cinnamon until combined. Stir in vegetable oil and remaining ingredients until blended. With wet hand, pat oat mixture into pan. Bake 30 to 35 miutes, until golden brown around the edges. Cool completely in pan on wire rack.

  3. When cool, transfer with foil to cutting board. Cut lengthwise into four strips, then cut each strip crosswise into six pieces.
