Recipe Ingredients for Grandma's Swiss Twist

1/2 cup butter
2 packages yeast
88 grams pudding, coconut cream, dry mix, regular
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/4 cups warm water
3 cups gold medal unbleached all purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sliced almonds
3 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon lowfat milk
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Recipe Directions for Grandma's Swiss Twist

  1. Pastry

  2. soften butter, add yeast, pudding mix, salt and sugar and stir

  3. add warm water and stir

  4. add flour and mix until not too sticky

  5. knead on a floured surface 12 times

  6. divide dough into 3 parts

  7. roll one part out in a circle to fill a round pizza pan

  8. mix 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  9. sprinkle cinnamon/sugar mixture over first layer

  10. sprinkle 1/3 of the sliced almonds over first layer

  11. repeat 3 layers

  12. cut a circle with a glass in the middle of the layered dough

  13. slice 16 pieces around the middle (like a pie)

  14. twist each piece 1.5 times (cinnamon surface will be on top)

  15. let raise in a warm area for 1 hour

  16. bake at 400 for 9-12 minutes until golden brown

  17. Frosting

  18. melt butter, add almond extract, vanilla extract and powdered sugar. Add enough milk to make the frosting spreadable when hot ( about 1 tablespoon)

  19. Serve warm for best taste.
