Recipe Ingredients for Grandma's Chicken 'n Dumplins

1 1/2 cups chicken broth (reserved from boiled chicken)
1/4 cup shortening
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
4 cups flour
4 cups chicken broth (or water if boiling chicken)
1/2 cup 2% milk
10 3/4 oz cream of chicken soup
1/2 lb chicken, cooked

Recipe Directions for Grandma's Chicken 'n Dumplins

  1. Boil chicken in water (if desired, you can use canned chicken and canned chicken broth).

  2. Mix 1.5 cups chicken broth, shortening, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Add flour gradually, mixing until it becomes a thick dough.

  4. Roll dough out to about .24 inch thickness; use a pizza cutter to slice dough into 1-2 inch squares.

  5. Chop or shred chicken (or serve in larger pieces on the side).

  6. Add milk and soup to chicken broth and heat to boiling.

  7. Add chicken and drop dumplings in a few at a time.

  8. Cook about 5 minutes.
