Recipe Ingredients for Grandma's Apple Cookies

1/2 cup shortening
1 1/3 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup 1% milk
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp clove
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 cup walnuts
1 cup dates
1 cup apples

Recipe Directions for Grandma's Apple Cookies

  1. Heat oven to 350.

  2. Cream shortening and brown sugar together.

  3. Mix in egg and milk.

  4. Stir in apples and dates.

  5. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg.

  6. Stir in nuts.

  7. Either drop spoonfuls of dough onto lightly greased cookie sheet OR spread into a 13x8 jelly roll pan.

  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes for cookies OR 20-25 minutes for cookie bars.
