How many grams of carbohydrate should I eat per day to stay in mild ketosis?

The daily intake of carbohydrate needed to maintain mild ketosis is an individual thing. Most people need to eat less than 100 grams of carbohydrate a day to maintain ketosis; however, some people need as little as 40-50 grams. To be sure, you'd have to test your urine for the presence and concentration of acetoacetic acid (ketone) with Ketostix. It also helps to throw the body into ketosis by following a very low carbohydrate diet like the Atkins Induction Phase for two weeks at the start. Protein intake also makes a difference because the body can convert protein to glucose. To maintain ketosis, your diet must be stringent indeed.
