Stuffed Cabbage in light tomato sauce

Recipe Ingredients for Golubtsy

1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 1/4 cup rice
1 large onion, chopped
29 ounces pork, stewed
14 cabbage leaves
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup tomato juice
1/2 tbsp salt
1/2 tbsp ground pepper
1 tbsp tomato paste
1/8 tbsp cumin
1/8 tbsp dry parsley flakes
1/8 tbsp dry dill weed
1 tbsp sour cream

Recipe Directions for Golubtsy

  1. In large dutch oven boil water. Insert cabbage leaves one by one to soften.

  2. Cook rice separately with 1/2 tbsp salt.

  3. In large dish combine cooked rice and stewed pork. Add half the spices.

  4. Remove cabbage from boiling water. Wrap rice and pork mixture into each leaf.

  5. Heat large frying pan with olive oil. Place each stuffed leaf into the pan. Remove once lightly browned.

  6. Combine tomato juice, tomato paste with the water with juices extracted when boiling cabbage. Add remaining spice and sour cream.

  7. Stew over medium heat until cabbage is fork-tender.
