Moist, slightly sweet northern style cornbread

Recipe Ingredients for Golden Cornbread

1 cup cornmeal
1 cup all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
4 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 large eggs
2/3 cup buttermilk
2/3 cup milk
2 tbl unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp butter

Recipe Directions for Golden Cornbread

  1. Adjust oven rack to center position. Heat oven to 425 degrees. Grease a 9-inch square metal pan.

  2. Whisk dry ingredients together.

  3. Crack eggs into the middle of the dry ingredients. Stir lightly, then add buttermilk and milk. Stir ingredients until almost combined. Add melted butter and stir until just combined.

  4. Pour batter into greased pan.. Bake until top is golden brown and lightly cracked and edges have pulled away from side of pan, about 25 minutes.

  5. Cool bread 5-10 minutes, then cut cornbread into squares and serve warm.
