Recipe Ingredients for Gingerbread

1/2 cup shortening, soft
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses, New Orleans style
1 cup water, boiling
2 1/4 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Gingerbread

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F

  2. Mix shortening, sugar, and egg together thoroughly.

  3. Blend in molasses and water.

  4. Sift flour, soda, salt, and spices together and stir in, beating

  5. until smooth.

  6. Pour into well-greased and floured 9 inch square pan.

  7. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 45 to 50 minutes. Cut into 3 inch squares in pan.
