Recipe Ingredients for German Goulash Soup

24 oz lean beef chuck roast, all fat and bones removed
2 oz unsalted butter
480 gram onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
3 tablespoon all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons paprika
6 oz tomato paste
15 oz Tomatoes Whole Plum Italian Style
2 quarts water
2 tablespoons Soup, Beef Broth Or Bouillon, Powder, Dry
470 gram potato
2 carrots

Recipe Directions for German Goulash Soup

  1. 1.) Cut chuck into bite-sized cubes. Melt the butter in the bottom of a large soup pot. brown the beef int he butter. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, saute until vegetables are soft.

  2. 2.) Dice potatoes and carrots, add to the beef mixture together with the remaining ingredients, except potatoes. Bring to a simmer, cover pot and cook on low heat for about 3 hours or until beef is tender.

  3. 3.) Add potatoes and adjust seasoning. If needed, add salt and pepper or a few hot pepper flakes.

  4. The paprika I use it "Hot Hungarian" as it has more of the flavor I am used to from Europe.

  5. 4.) Serve soup with some crusty rye bread and a green salad.

  6. Enjoy!
