Recipe Ingredients for german frigadellen, large meatballs

500 gram ground beef
500 gram ground pork
1 large onion
1 slice of bread
1 egg
100 gram breadcrumbs
2 tblsp olive oil

Recipe Directions for german frigadellen, large meatballs

  1. chop the onion into small pieces and mix together with the beef and pork, season with salt and pepper, (you can add garlic and other herbs too if you choose)

  2. soak the bread and then squeeze out water as possible, break into small pieces and mix together with onions and meat. (this works best if the bread is dried out before hand but also works just fine with regular bread if you dont have any dried)

  3. crack the egg into the mixture and stir all together

  4. take 2 large plates, put the breadcrumbs onto one. The lightly wet your hands and scoop about a golf ball size of the mixture into your hands, squash it together like you would a snowball and then roll it in the breadcrumbs, pop it onto the spare plate and squash it just a little bit. You should be able to make about 12 meatballs depending on what size you do them.

  5. Heat a sauce pan with a table spoon of olive oil and pop as many of the meatballs in as you can, you may only get 5 or so in. You can cook them in 2 lots and then put them all in to heat them up before serving.
