Apple cake is a handed down recipe from my family. I have not tried making this with Splenda instead of sugar.

Recipe Ingredients for German Apple Cake

2 eggs
1/4 cup canola oil
3/4 cup applesauce
1 cup sugar
3 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
5 cups apples

Recipe Directions for German Apple Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour (I used cinnamon sugar instead of flour)a 9x13 inch cake pan.

  2. In a mixing bowl beat oil, apple sauce and eggs with electric mixer until creamy. Add sugar and vanilla and beat well.

  3. Combine flour, salt, baking soda and ground cinnamon in a separate bowl, mix well. Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture a little at a time. Mix all until combined. The batter will be thick.

  4. Fold in the diced apples by hand using a wooden spoon, and then spread the batter into the prepared pan.

  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until cake tests done. Let cool on wire rack. Once cooled serve with a dusting of confectioners' sugar if desired, but that is not needed and not accounted for in the ingredients.
