Hot twist on General Tsao's sauce that uses garden fresh jalapenos. For less heat in the sauce, use fewer jalapenos.

Recipe Ingredients for General Tsao sauce with jalapenos

1 tbsp. sesame oil
1 teaspoon seasoned rice vinegar
2 tbsp. chopped garlic
1/4 cup cider vinegar
2 tbsp. sugar
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
3 jalapeno peppers
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon corn starch

Recipe Directions for General Tsao sauce with jalapenos

  1. cut stem of jalapenos, remove seeds and spines

  2. grill or roast jalapenos until soft (these two steps may be done well ahead of time)

  3. mince jalapenos

  4. in a small sauce pan, heat oil and add garlic, rice vinegar, cider vinegar, jalapenos, and soy sauce

  5. cook until boiling

  6. add sugar and stir until dissolved.

  7. add cornstarch to water in a custard cup and blend

  8. add cornstarch mixture to the boiling sauce

  9. cook 5 minutes over low heat stirring frequently, until thickened.

  10. Sauce will continue to thicken as it cools, and may be stored in the refrigerator for one week to use as a glaze or dipping sauce.

  11. Use over cooked chicken and vegetables, to taste, with rice or pasta

  12. (makes 4 servings, approximately 1/4 cup each)
