Lowered sodium BBQ sauce. Half the sodium of Kraft Honey Garlic BBQ sauce. Serving size 2 tablespoons.

Recipe Ingredients for Garlic Honey BBQ Sauce - Lower Sodium

1 serving Tomato Paste, No Salt Added, Hunt's, whole can
1 medium (2-1/2" dia) Onions
1 tbsp Olive Oil
3 tbsp Chopped Garlic
1/2 cup water
3 tbsp Pure US Grade A Clover Honey
1 tsp SPLENDA Brown Sugar Blend
1 serving Beef Cooking Stock, Unsalted, Kitchen Basics, 1 Cup
1 tsp Mustard
1 tbsp Garlic Powder
2 tbsp Vinegar, Cider
1/4 serving Worcestershire Sauce, Reduced Sodium, Lea
1/4 tsp Pepper, Black
1 tbsp Kretschmer Wheat Germ, Regular

Recipe Directions for Garlic Honey BBQ Sauce - Lower Sodium

  1. In a medium sized pot, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.

  2. Sauté the onions and garlic in olive oil for 5-7 minutes, until onions are soft and translucent.

  3. Reduce heat to medium.

  4. Stir in honey, Splenda brown sugar, and tomato paste until smooth. Stir in beef broth, water, mustard powder, garlic powder, vinegar, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of cayenne pepper (if desired).

  5. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low.

  6. Simmer for 20-30 minutes, until the sauce thickens (to your liking). Use immediately or refrigerate for up to 1 week.

  7. For a smoother sauce: Allow to cool slightly. Whirl cooled sauce in blender.

  8. Makes about 2 cups (16 2-Tablespoon servings)

  9. NOTE: You can omit the brown sugar if desired.
