A hearty and satisfying soup for winter days.

Recipe Ingredients for Garden Vegetable and Barley Soup

1 kg cabbage
500 g potatoes
500 g carrot
30 ml soy sauce
60 ml tomato sauce
500 g onion
60 ml olive oil
10 g mixed spice
2 litres boiling water
50 g dried barley

Recipe Directions for Garden Vegetable and Barley Soup

  1. Fry the onion with some garlic if liked until soft. Add the boiling water and vegetable combination - use any green veg instead of cabbage, whatever is ready in the garden or cheap in the supermarket. Cook for around half an hour and liquidise - Can make it totally smooth or do as I do and leave it with a few lumps in it.

  2. Add the Soy Sauce, tomato sauce, and or any combination of spices at the end to your own taste. I love it with Cumin and a few others but whatever you like. Leave out the Soy sauce if you want to reduce the salt.
