My mother's recipe for spicy meatballs was the number one request for dinner when friends spent the night and now it is the number one request from my children as well.

Recipe Ingredients for Gallo meatballs and sauce

1 lb lean ground beef
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 egg
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/8 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1 small onion, finely minced
18 oz tomato paste
4 cups water
2 T Tabasco
1 tsp salt
1 T sugar
1/2 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp dried parsley
1/4 tsp black pepper

Recipe Directions for Gallo meatballs and sauce

  1. Crumble beef into bowl and add following seven ingredients, tossing together lightly to combine. Gently shape into walnut size balls with little compression.

  2. Put tomato paste, water and all else into large pot and stir while heating over medium flame. Add meatballs to sauce and stir to coat. Cover pan with a mesh splatter lid, or you will regret it! Simmer over low heat at least one hour stirring occasionally. Do not cover with a traditional lid or the meatballs will steam and the sauce will be runny. The sauce become a nice rich red color after 1 to 1 1/2 hours and may be served over pasta or on buns for subs.
