Recipe Ingredients for Fried Chick Peas and Peppers - Channa Aur Simla Mirch

250 grams Peas Chick
0.5 tsp Salt, Table
2 tsp Ghee Clarified Butter
2 tbsp(6 g) Cumin Seed
15 grams Fresh Chili
1 tbsp Ginger (12oz)
0.5 tsp Turmeric, Ground
1 medium raw Bell Pepper Green
1 medium whole (2-3/5" dia)(123 g) Tomatoes, Red, Ripe

Recipe Directions for Fried Chick Peas and Peppers - Channa Aur Simla Mirch

  1. Soak the chick peas overnight in water double their volume Drain them and put them into a pot. Add enough water to cover them by about 3 inches (7.5cm) and add the salt.

  2. Boil it for 10 min. remove any froth that has collected on the top, cover and gently simmer over medium-low heat for 40 min to 1 hour. Drain the water but save 125 ml if you plan to make a sauce.

  3. Over medium heat, heat the ghee and fry the cumin seeds. Then add the minced chilli and ginger. Add the turmeric and asafetida (half tablespoon) and then follow immediately with the cut pepper.

  4. When the pepper appears to be soft and browned add the drained chick peas and stir for 3 min.

  5. If you would like a sauce, add the water you saved, or 1 chopped tomato, and cook for 5 min. more.

  6. Soaking time: overnight
