Fried Cabbage Recipe

One of many variations of eastern European sauteed cabbage. Goes great with egg noodles.

Recipe Ingredients for Fried Cabbage

2 large onions, diced
2 cups sauerkraut
1 head cabbage, large, chopped
2 sticks butter

Recipe Directions for Fried Cabbage

  1. Dice onion, chop cabbage into small pieces.

  2. In large stockpot, melt butter and add the remaining ingredients. Cover and let sit for a few minutes to allow cabbage to wilt.

  3. Toss the cabbage mix in the stockpot to avoid burning. You will notice the cabbage creating alot of broth.

  4. When cabbage and onions are soft and al dente, remove the lid and continue to cook. The goal is to reduce the mix so that the excess broth evaporates, and the onions and cabbage begin to caramelize (or start to brown). Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
