Recipe Ingredients for French Onion Soup

48 oz. beef broth
4 medium yellow onions, sliced thin
1 T. Butter
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/8 tsp. ground thyme
1/4 cup white wine
6 slices swiss cheese, thin

Recipe Directions for French Onion Soup

  1. Brown onions in butter.

  2. Deglaze pan with wine.

  3. Add broth and seasonings.

  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer on medium for 15 minutes.

  5. While soup is cooking, slice a crusty baguette into 1/4 inch rounds. Toast bread rounds under oven broiler. Put toasted bread rounds into bottom of soup mug. Pour soup over bread, then top with swiss cheese. Put back under broiler until cheese is melted. CAREFUL! It will be very hot!!
