traditional French style king cake, very popular in new orleans, done extremely well by la boulangerie on magazine street

Recipe Ingredients for French King Cake

95 grams almonds, ground (measured after ground)
17 1/3 ounces puff pastry sheets
1/2 cup butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/4 cup flour

Recipe Directions for French King Cake

  1. Frangipane - Cream the butter and sugar together.

  2. Mix in the almonds.

  3. Add the eggs one at a time, to gradually incorporate them.

  4. Fold the flour into the mixture.

  5. Assemble - Place 1 sheet of pastry into a 9" tart pan.

  6. Spread the frangipane mixture over the top.

  7. Place the remaining pastry on top.

  8. Trim the edges and seal. Make a couple of vents in the top.

  9. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes until the pastry is golden.

  10. Allow to cool.
