French Bread Recipe

Make this in a loaf pan for sandwiches.

Recipe Ingredients for French Bread

1 1/2 cup water
2 tsp salt
4 cups flour
3 tsp yeast

Recipe Directions for French Bread

  1. Mix dry ingredients in a stand mixer.

  2. Add water and mix well. Change to dough hook.

  3. Knead the dough for at least five minutes.

  4. Let raise till doubled.

  5. Divide dough in half and roll out to a 9x13 rectangle.

  6. Seal surface with a damping of water. Fold over in thirds.

  7. Roll out a bit more and damp surface to seal. Roll the loaf beginning at the narrow end.

  8. Let raise in loaf pan until double.

  9. Bake at 450 for about 20 minutes. Put a small oven-proof bowl of hot water in the oven while baking to crisp the crust. Cool on racks before slicing.
