Crock Pot recipe. Use beef stew meat, sold already cut up & packaged, as a shortcut.

Recipe Ingredients for French Beef Bourguignon

2 tbsp canola oil
2 lbs boneless beef chuck roast, cut into 1" pieces
4 medium carrots, cut into thin, 4" pieces
14 oz diced tomatoes, undrained
1 small yellow onion, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
1 cup white button mushrooms, chopped
1 cup dry red wine
1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves, chopped
1 tsp salt
1 tsp minced fresh basil
1 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
2 tbsp flour
1/4 cup cold water
1 lb noodles, homestyle, cooked according to package directions

Recipe Directions for French Beef Bourguignon

  1. Heat oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef and cook, turning to brown all sides. Transfer to crock pot.

  2. Add carrots, tomatoes and juice, onion, celery, mushrooms, red wine, thyme, salt, basil, dry mustard, and black pepper. Stir to combine. Cover and cook on LOW 8-10 hours or on HIGH 4-5 hours, or until vegetables and beef are very tender and sauce is rich.

  3. 30 minutes before serving, whisk flour into water in small bowl until smooth and combined. Stir into sauce. Turn to HIGH and cook until flour and water thicken sauce, about 3-5 minutes. Serve over cooked noodles.
