Worried I'm losing weight too fast!

Before I began trying to eat better and exercise a few days a week, I ate all the wrong things (lots of fast food and candy, desserts).  I drank soda often, I didn't purposely exercise.  This was just a few weeks ago.  I've been on CC for only 10 days, and I've lost 6.2 lbs.  I try to get in 30 minutes of walking on the treadmill most days, but at most, I walk in intervals of 3.0 mph to 3.5, back and forth.  I've stopped eating all the bad stuff, and I drink only skim milk and water.  I eat lean proteins, whole grains, lots of vegetables (with 1/2 serving of dip), 3 servings of dairy a day, and usually 1 fruit.  My caloric intake started out around 1450-1650 until I read that in order to lose 1 lb/wk I should be on a 1300 calorie diet (2 days ago).  So now, I'm aiming for 1400 calories, since my walking burns a little over 100.  I'm 5'7, medium frame, and when I started this, I weighed 160.  I've read that if you're obese, numbers like that aren't necessarily harmful.  But I'm not, and wasn't when I started this, so it seems way fast.  I don't want to gain back anything I lose; I want to change my life and do this right!  Can anyone offer any insight?

I am almost exactly the same, it scares me.  I'm 5'7, started out at 160 pounds, too.  In the first week, I lost 6 pounds, but only lost 1 in the second week.  So on my 2 week anniversary, I'm down a total of 7 pounds.  I think a lot of it has to do with not drinking the soda and eating better in general.  I believe that you'll see a quick drop at first due to water weight (I defintitely did, I'm not nearly as bloated as when I started) but it will even out after awhile.

I know this is a stupid question, but have you played with the clories calculator?  I'm seditary (desk job), so it says to limit myself to 1300 cals per day.  It seems like you do more exercising than I do, so maybe you should up your activity level?  I think it's right that your eating what you burn walking, but I like to compare how the activity levels differ.  Just an idea.


It's completely normal to lose that much in the first 10 days of a new diet. Out of the 6 pounds you've lost, it's very likely that 4 of those were water weight. It's good that you recognize you're losing too fast, but don't worry--the numbers will slow down, because it sounds like you're eating enough. In fact, you might be able to eat in the 1450-1650 range, because with 30 minutes of walking a day you could set yourself at light activity instead of sedentary. 


in your former diet you were probably eating a lot of salt.

once you stopped that your body naturally releases a lot of water.  In a few weeks a 1 pound drop will seem like nothing and you will wish you could have that 6lbs drop again!

Don't worry about the big number in ten days.  It is normal to lose a lot in the first week to couple of weeks when you start eating healthy and exercising.  Much of it is likely water weight but it is still nice to see the scale go down! I lost about 6.5 lbs in the first week as well (been a member for years but started again on Feb. 19th).  Trust me it will slow down!  I have been losing 1.5 or 2lbs each week since the first week (1.5lb loss is the target I've set for myself). Good for you for making the decision to lose weight and get healthy!

I agree with the others - I certainly don't think this weight loss trend will continue. You say yourself you were eating a lot of "junk" before you started losing, now you're eating more healthily - I think it's normal. Keep an eye on how things go, but I wouldn't worry too much - just keep eating healthily and exercising and make sure you don't drop your calories too much. Good luck :)
