Protein Sparing Modified Fast (PSMF)

I would like to know if some of you have tried this diet Protein Sparing Modified Fast (PSMF). I am overweight almost 45lb and I have a wedding to go in December. I have tried to reduce my calories but ... no success. Please let me know what you think or if you have had any experience with this diet.

If you did a 500 cal deficit for 30 days and didn't lose at least 5lbs then you need to either step up by exercising or maybe you have a slow thyroid. Reducing cals works - straight up.

I would recommend avoiding fake sugars, dairy, and high sugar foods (they can make you appear bigger than you are). Integrate some cardio (hiit is the best) for some quick slim downing. Hit up the sauna and shed the 10lbs of water weight you're probably carrying. It may be only temp weight loss but you'll make it; you have more than enough time.

On cutting season I drop 20lbs in 6 weeks... and it's just fat. If you don't care what kind of weight (water, muscle, or fat) then just cut cals, sodium, do cardio, and sweat it out.


What do you mean when you say you tried to reduce your calories with no success? Did you not succeed at reducing your calories, or did you reduce your calories but still not lost weight?

I don't know the details of this fast, but I do know fasting will not help you to lose weight long term. December is still a long ways away, you have plenty of time to lose weight healthily before then.

I do not know about this particular fast, but what you can do that has helped me in the past as far as starting to lose weight is go on a juice fast. Just either go to a Central Market, or something similiar, and get fresh squeezed juices, or use a juicer. Get green juices, usually made from kale, cucumber, spinach, and celery, carrot juice, and apple juice, and try drinking an 8 oz glass every four hours. Also, drink 2 scoops of protein powder in 8 oz water during one time throughout the day. Try to stay at about the 1000-1200 calorie range, but do not exceed the diet for longer than 3 days unless you start drinking 8 oz of juice every 3 hours. I've done this and lost about 6 lbs in 3 days, and it stayed off for a good while until I got pregnant. It will clean out your colon, which I know is TMI, but that it turn causes you to lose weight from that, but also it helps with speading up future digestion. Also, when you go off the diet, do not immediately start eating meat and breads. Start easy with fruits and vegetables or you will overwelm your system. Hope this helps and good luck!

I am on the PSMF now.  It is really hard, but I have only been doing it for a week.  I am on a doctor supervised one and have to take potassium (prescription) magnesium, calcium, and a multivitamin.  So far in one week I have lost 14 pounds (but I have a lot more to lose than you).  The physician promised I would meet my goal in 10 months if I listen and follow.  It's 3 months on, 1 month off (modified) and so on until 10 months.  Then you go through a re-feeding program and follow up program.  This is not a diet you can go on and off at will - you can get really sick or mess up your electrolytes and end up in the hospital.  You also can get very sick if you cheat.  Supposedly 3-4 days after I am in moderate ketosis I will no longer be hungry - right now I am.  Several people I work with have done this and only a few of them were able to tough it out.  Those who did have kept the weight off.
