Our gym is having a biggest loser contest. Prize: 400 dollars. Nice right? I have plans for that money. I'm lucky. [well and not lucky] I am fat. Eating right and exercise has dramatic impact for me. I also spent the last year building a muscle base. I went from panting over 10 pounds on all lifts to 100 pound ab crunches and 110 one legged leg lifts. I put on muscle.
I started this on Jan 5. to date I have lost about 15 pounds in under 3 weeks. [it pays to be fat with a good muscle base and clean up your diet... I really miss my coke classic]
And I have hit the 2 week plateau. I've dropped about 3 pounds in that time. I know I need to shut up and stop whining but you know, it doesn't feel that way.
I know it is all in the head but the contest end date is April 28th. That is part of the whine. I enjoyed that major drop.
Oh whack me on the head with the foam bats from the nerf ball for kids side of the gym...
My advice (which works for me) - eat at maintenance level for a few days (3 - 5) - don't exercise to compensate for it! and you'll probably see a drop :-)
I've been eyeing up the pizza at Weis. They make the best pizza in their deli. It might do me good have a slice or two and bring myself up to maintenance. I can work it in easily but have been doing a bit lower fat than that. It might work enough to shock the body into losing.
My gym manger at the Y said try some mini workouts on the off days too. About 10 minutes worth to break the routine I am use to doing.
Woah, does eating at matinence really work, whichwayup?? (:

And I've been switching up my exercise everyday, but I still plateaued for two weeks also, pjh. Boo.

losing 3 lbs in 2 weeks is not a plateau. Where do people get these idea's.
Neither is 18lbs in 5 weeks.
Stupid TBL, making people think that losing a healthy rate of 1-2lbs/week is a failure.
I agree with the two above posters. As long as you are losing weight, I didn't think it was considered a plateau. I am not a real expert on it but that is just what I think.
Now for me, I have gone 3 wks without losing any weight at all.... that is what I consider a "mini plateau".
It certainly does for me! I haven't been at one for months and months (that's not really what I consider a plateau anyway - to me that's someone who's just maintaining), but if you generally consistently lose X number of lbs per week and it then stops for 3-6 weeks, that's what I consider a mini plateau.
And to break that, eating at maintenance (or more) for a few days, whilst not exercising, certainly works for me (when I resume my normal eat & exercise regime again) :-)
I must have missed that bit. Uhm nope, losing weight (even if slowly) definitely isn't any sign of a plateau.

I'm eating between 1850 and 2000 calories a day. I got rid of the JUNK in the diet and I'm losing that fast. I can eat 3500 and maintain. Can you?
Now if you are done being a critical pain. You can either exit this gracefully or say, You are right. It is all in your head. Hit yourself with a foam bat.
Hasn't effected my HIIT energy one way or the other and sure hasn't changed my poundage on lifting. I'm still doing 3 sets of 100 pounds in Ab crunches and 3 sets of 115 per single leg in leg presses and about to go up.
And here is a foam bat to the ones who don't listen.

Oh, sorry, whichwayup. I meant I'm still pleateauing. Last time I pleateaued for a month and gave up. So this time I'm trying to stay strong.
I am a 5 and half foot tall ,36 year old male and have been gradually gaining weight for the last 15yrs. I had my wake up call when I broke 259lbs.
I made an immediate change and lost almost 20lbs in 3 weeks by limiting my calories to 1800 per day, Drinking more water, switching to whole wheat, eating veggies like carrots and celery for snack, cutting out pop and i started exercising. I have cut out cheese processed or otherwise, reduced the fat in the dairy I still use and increased my fiber.
Other than working out more or starving myself I don't know what else to do. I have hit a wall and stopped at 241.
