Are any of you 5'4-5'6 and plateauing at ~130 pounds?? :D

I'm 5'5 (cw: 133lbs), and have never ever managed to get below 128...I always got discouraged in the past...I notice that so many women around my height tend to plateau in their 130's as well, that's why I'm calling on y'all!

This time I'm determined to get to my goal (120lbs or size 4...whichever comes first). A friend of mine who successfully overcame the 130 plateau told me that it's the most difficult plateau to overcome (and she knows her stuff since she was obese once). So we should start a group! That way we can keep motivating each other to reach our goals...let's see who gets to push through their plateau first...then we can share tips and all that stuff!

Well with fat loss and muscle gains from improving your fitness (and thus tone!) you might even end up around the same weight you are now, yet with a better body fat percentage.

I try to think that whilst toned is really good for self esteem and appearance, general fitness improves quality of life! So I focus on that aspect too.

Yes, losing fat for muscle definition through cardio is the way to go! Find something you enjoy! And mix it up with some weights for the muscles behind the flat stomach!!

CC and its community can answer just about any question, so if in doubt as away!

Hi Ashley and welcome,

I am also a healthy BMI, but the range of healthy BMI for my height has about a 25 pound span, because I am small boned I should be at the bottom range, not the top. I don't have your proportion issues on top, I  have mine on the bottom, *sigh* but I have the same issues of needing my weight to work with my frame and shape. I have been exercising for years, so I'm sure I've got some awesome muscle tone under my layer of fat, a lot of my weight loss goal is really about uncovering my hard work. I don't really care what number that is on the scale, but I've been battling with 10- 15 for so long, it's just time for new solutions. I am going to try to get to 120 and stay there for long enough to change my set point so I can stay under 125-130 from the other side, instead of bouncing around above 130.

What's been really effective so far has been calorie counting and HIIT cardio. I mix it up comepletly every now and again, so that my body doesn't adjust

Good luck to you!

I have done nothing but work for the entire weekend! I have a dermatology/ophthalmology/ENT exam this afternoon and psychiatry ones later in the week.

But the good news is I have been eating with the control of a 1300-1400calories/day-programmed robot, and I have been under 130lb for a week now! Only just... but I am there. I look much slimmer too, I think. I feel like a disgusting hairy caterpillar in old smelly clothes, but after the exams I will emerge as a free, slender butterfly (once I get my legs waxed anyway!) I cannot wait to start exercising properly again (I cannot believe I just said that.)

Hope all are going well. I think we should keep sight of the fact on this thread we are all (I think) a healthy weight, which is fantastic and something many on this site envy, however many little struggles we are taking to look better.

Thanks for the warm welcome, ladies!

I finally have a scale, and so was able to weigh myself last night: 129.1 lb. I'm not convinced that this is a valid weight loss for me, as I had to estimate my starting weight last week (130lb) due to lack of scale. But in order to make myself feel as though I've actually achieved something, I'm going to pretend that my estimate WAS accurate, and that I lost 0.9 lbs this week. Yay me! Laughing

desert_rose: I think my exercise program looks good too - if I could just find time to fit it all in! I only managed 1 HIIT last week. It kicked my ASS like I never imagined!

lemoneko007: noooo, no crashing into a bottomless pit for you! you've already recognized that you need to change your lifestyle a little bit, so that's half the battle already. I'm sure you'll do great.

bairn: I love miso soup too - it has a great flavor, and lots of heathy nutrients (even if the sodium content can be a little on the high side). I can relate to your lack of time thing, too - I'm moving house right now, and can barely find time to breathe, much less exercise. Luckily, my bike to work every day at least keeps me moving a little.

jocalo: glad you're doing well after the surgery. 'Prescription' ice-cream, too! You lucky thing :) Re: contraceptive pill - yeah, I think it is a case of weighing up the positives vs. the negatives: for me, the positives outweigh the negatives for right now. But I agree that it seems to make adding muscle tone a lot more difficult. Re: Wellbutrin -  I've heard that this is less prone to causing weight gain that some of the others. Paxil is particularly bad, I think. Luckily for me, I'm not currently on anti-depressants, and haven't been for a couple of years. So I guess I have no excuse for the belly fat! Frown

Okay, so it's been a week since my initial measurements. Here's the update:

waist: 29" (no change)

belly: 34" (no change, boo!)

hips: 38.5" (1/2 inch smaller! woo!)

thigh: 22" (no change)

chest: 34" (no change, thank god)

CW 129.1 lbs (possible 1lb loss since starting this last week - but starting weight was an estimate, so could be no change)

GW: 120lbs

My period is due this week, so I'm probably retaining a little water. That's my excuse for no belly size reduction, anyway ;)

Re: calorie intake: I'm aiming for 1500 per day, but if I'm honest, I'm averaging around 1800 per day (albeit healthy, low-fat, high protein/fiber calories). I'm aware that this may be a little too high for weight loss (thoughts?) - however I do exercise a lot, and my average daily calorie deficit across the last week has been just under 500. Which I figure is enough to gradually lose 10 lbs over the next few months. I'm not really in a hurry, so that's fine with me Smile

So over the weekend I weighed myself and I was 129 lbs...first time in 2 years I've seen numbers in the 120s (ok I realize 129 is barely cutting it for the 120s but still, it really boosted my confidence). This morning I weighed myself and I was back to 130. The 130 trap has hit again!

I am at 130 lbs with a size 4 but having 3 kids has taken a toll in my mid section area and want to tone it down.  I have try everything including taking the diet pills.   I want my weight to be around 115 lbs.  Recently, I have taken roller skating and long walking at night and 20 min. on eleptical.  Also, I am watching my calories intake.  My calories intake per day is 1050.  I don't know what else to do?

dimishushi: sucks when that happens! I'm going through the same thing right now: one day 129, the next 128.5, the next, 130, later that day, 130.5... these kinds of fluctuations are normal, I think. I'm sure you'll fluctuate back down again in a day or two. It ain't a trap 'til it's got you for good!!

vievien: I'm relatively new to this forum and I don't want to give you the wrong advice, BUT... I suspect that a daily intake of 1050 is way too low. The minimum recommended intake for a sedentary woman (and you are far from sedentary, judging by your exercise schedule) is 1200 per day. Consuming less than this can actually make it harder to lose weight, because your body is effectively going into 'starvation' mode, and hanging onto every last lb that it can! My recommendation would be to up your calorie intake to a healthier, more sustainable level, and keep up the good work with the exercise. Oh yeah - and stay away from diet pills!! Total waste of time (and money), in my opinion Smile

Hey Ladies!

Weighing in. The numbers are encouraging because I am probably holding a little water weight cause of TOM:

134 lbs (down a pound!)

Chest 36 (no change)

waist 24.25 (down .5")

tummy 32 (same)

hips 37 (down .5")

Welcome vievien. I'm going to second miso_soup on your calories being too low. Our bodies are very clever and will slow down if they think they are being starved.

Wow 3 kids. I only have 1. You can get back into shape again, don't let anyone tell you that it's over once you have kids. I got into the best shape of my life after my son was born, but then I slacked off. Now it is harder to get back to it because I am older, but I am seeing real results now.

Hello Ladies!

Thanks for the great comments.  Maybe, you are right.  Not enough calories will put your body into starvation mode.  I'll eat some more and see what happen!

Good work ladies, lets keep it up!!

Not been on here in a bit; hope everyone's ok! Taken some time off calorie-counting. I did have one big night out partying Thursday when I was a happy drunken mess (though didn't eat much particularly) and have spent the weekend with boys and beer festivals... it was fine though, I just was sensible with what I ate, didn't drink excessively though enjoyed some great local ale, and did loads and loads of running around, dancing and walking along the river in the beautiful sunshine.

So came back and am still 128lb, which I am very happy with. I am so much better at portion sizes these days, and passing on every other round with the boys out drinking.

Great news, I'm down to 132. This is the lowest I've been in ages. I am nervous about the 130 wall ahead, but I am continually changing my workout so I don't get in a rut.

bust: 35.5 (-.5")

waist: 24 (-.25")

belly: 31 (-1")

hips: 36.5 (-.5)

Bairn-Sounds like a great weekend. It is so important to find a way to make this a lifestyle change so we have some leeway every once in a while. Like you said, chill on portions so a weekend of (sorta) debauchery doesn't knock you off track.

Does anyone know how long it takes to change your set point once you've lost the weight? Like how long do you have to stay at a particular weight for it to re-set?  How do you know what it has re-set to???

oooo ooooo me too me too,Can I join too?I am so stoked I found these posts.I am in exactly the same booat.Hovering around 130 and would love to get down to 120.I am 5ft6 and will have to check my inches.I lost 50 pounds 5 yrs ago and the past year it has crept up 10lbs.We moved to the deep south and I find the deep fried delicasies hard to resist sometimes.I am a hardcore Jazzerciser and also work out at the gym,I try and work out 5 or six times a week depending on kiddos and schedules.Good luck out there my plateau buddies!

I'm so delighted I found this thread - can I join?

I'm so relieved to find that I'm not alone - I thought it was just me - at 5'5", always hovering around 130-135 and wanting to be 118 - 120.  To be honest, I'm not really bothered about my weight - I'd just love to get my hips/widest area down to 34 - 35 inches.  I'd also love skinny thighs, 16-18 would be great, - but I think I'd need a hip measurement of about 25 before this was possible, so I'll settle for losing the J-Lo. Smile  I would LOVE to lose an inch per month - I have 3 weddings to go to in August and a sailing holiday in September - so really need to be comfortable in my skin.  Also - in the past year I've got the dreaded C.  Cellulite.  Any tips on how to banish?

CW = 133

GW = 119

Widest = 37 (Goal = 34-5)

Waist = 27.5

Thighs = 22

OMG desert_rose I am 5'7" and 135 Pounds. I cannot seem to get pass 130 pounds for the past year no matter how hard I try. I need to know what to do fast so I may get out of this mode of fluctuation.

ME!  Been 129-135 range for over a year, not changing measurements. Want to lose a size and stay 125-128.

5' 3 1/2",  bust = 39,   waist = 29,  hips = 38 1/2, thighs = 21     BMI = 22.4

Welcome to all of you new plateau fighters!

I weighed in day before yesterday, but finals kept me from posting my results.

Down to 131.80, I know it's really almost 132, but I don't care. I'm so excited to see that I'm creeping down to the 130 wall. I have been full of intense cravings the past couple of days, I think because of stress. My finals are done now so I can focus on getting my eating back on track.

I'll take my measurements later got to go collapse now.
