# Can I lose 10 pounds in 2 months?

17 Replies (last)

Yes you can! 1 lb is 3500 calories. 10 lbs is 35,000 calories. So first you should use the tools on this website to determine how many calories you burn in a day (or if you're younger than 21, you'll have to find another calculator for 'kids'). Lets say you burn 2000 a day. If you eat 1500 calories a day (so that is a 500 cal deficit) you will lose 1 lb a week, which would be a bit over 8lbs in 2 months. If you have a 600 cal deficit then you should lose 10 lbs in 2 months.

however, this doesn't always work the way it should mathematically. some people lose really quickly at first and then slow down, some people don't see any progress. The important thing is that you are being healthy and not eating too much or little.

Thanks for the help!! Ok so according to the burn meter on CC (I'm 22 this yr:) I burn 1660 per day if I don't exercise. And if I wanna lose 10lbs in 2 months (8 weeks), I need a deficit of (35000/8/7)=625 per day, meaning I can only eat 1035 calories a day right?? Just checking if the math I'm doing is correct!! But Omg that is sooooo little I think I'll go crazy. And I know there's a rule that we're supposed to eat at least 1200 per day or our metabolism is screwed  :(

Don't go below 1200. Increase your deficit by exercising.

meaning i'll have to exercise off at least 200 per day right? oh goshhhhh.

Yep, don't 'gosshhhh' at having to burn an extra 200 calories a day, that is very little. I stayed on the stairmaster for 51 minutes last night and burned a little over 1000 calories. All you have to do is find something you like to do thats active, jog, swim, play tennis, aerobics class, anything that will get your heart pumping. You can do it :-) The hardest part for most people is eating right, it takes a lot of discipline especially with the Holidays coming up, but it is possible.

are you KIDDING?! burning a 1000 calories?? Are you really sure your machine got it right?? Usually when I jog on the threadmill for half an hour I still burn less than 300!!!!

If you burn 300 cals exercising then in total you'd be burning about 1960 a day. Also, if you're not too overweight than it's reccomended to try to lose weight a bit slower. If you eat 1500 cals a day you'd have a deficit of 460 a day, you'll feel better and more energized than eating 1200 cals a day, and it would only be an extra 2 weeks.

Also keep in mind that sometimes if someone eat's too little for their needs, then the metabolism starts slowing down, or the body somehow refuses to lose fat for protection. okay I don't know exactly how it works so don't take my words exactly, but do look it up if you're interested.

First -- the closer you are to a healthy weight, the harder it is to lose weight -- the body instinctively knows that you don't REALLY need to lose anymore weight to be healthy....

Keep your calories in at no less than 1200 -- regardless of your burn, your activity level, regardless of everything.

You are going about it backwards.

Total burn = 1660 + 250 = 1910

Subtract 500 from 1840 to get that elusive 1 lb per week (500 cals x 7 days = 3500 cals down = 1 lb loss - most of the time)

so 1910 - 500 = 1440 -- so you don't even have to drop all the way down to 1200 (and most people should not do that, regardless -- once you've dropped down to the limit, where do you go from there?)

Try to eat cleanly (80% of the time eat the good/great foods, 20% cut yourself slack)

Drink lots of water.  Seriously.  Just not all at one go -- I usually drink about 1.5 gallons per day, and feel it when I don't, but water and coffee are the only things I drink anyway.

Good luck!

1.5 US gallons of water a day? Please say you are kidding because that is 10 UK pints!

You must be on the loo 24/7.

Actually I'm pretty sure the machine is wrong which is why I invested in a an HRM. there are several articles on how inaccurate the machines are. The machines only ask your weight, my HRM knows how old I am, my Sex, and actually measures my heart rate, (which is usually between 170-190).

I need to lose 10 pound in a month....

I have gained 20 pounds in less than 8 months.... long story.

And now, at 35 losing weight isnt so easy.

:(

Not kidding.  And no, not diabetic, either.  I like water, it's about the only thing I drink, and I carry it with me at all times.  I don't pee anymore than anyone else, I don't think.  I can sit through movies and usually sleep through the night.

But, I've been drinking that much most of my life -- my bladder may well be quite used to it.

What a coincidence, I just found out today that I've lost 12 pounds in the last two months :) I've been eating between 1200 and 1300 calories a day, and exercising every now and then. Totally possible, you can do it!!

35 is not so old.  I'm 41 and I've lost about 40lbs since June.  I got motivated and put my mind to it.  Still have more to go, but I'm excited that I've gotten this far despite a back injury 6 weeks ago (and counting).

cairnspirit

I am 46 Years and i manage to loss 38kgs .I was 117.6 kgs now  i am at 79 kgs. I was suffer from infection due to over weight. Now is over. I am target to loose weight to about 70kgs. The secret is eat low calorie food mostly are boiled food, steamed food, vegetable and fruits. And do exercise.Try to eat 1500 calorie /day.

I'm 53 years old, have gone through menopause, and I will find out on Sunday if I've lost 20 pounds in two months (I lost 18 pounds as of last weekend).

My target is 1600-1700 calories a day, almost all of them nutritionally-dense food (very little sugar/white flour stuff, but some).  I exercise about 45 minutes 5 days a week, 30 on the treadmill and 15 minutes of stomach crunches/upper body weights.

I don't consider my regime to be extreme or hard-core.  For me, I just gotta make healthfulness my priority, and resist whining.  I also have never gotten into the mathematics (calculating deficits, etc).  I let the scale tell me what I need to do.

Ten pounds in two months is a totally sane and reasonable goal - good luck!

Thank you everyone!! Okay, I'm gonna listen to you guys and stick to my diet WELL and stop giving up all the time. Been back on track for 2 days as of now, and I aim to lose 10 pounds by the end of dec!! And to those of you struggling too, all the best!!! We'll support one another!
