Jen Jolan (so called America's weight loss queen), has anyone tried her books.

Google her and check out her books on amazon. Some of the weight loss tips she gives are wierd, but ppl seem to like her.

Any experiences with her. I was interested in her 1 day diet ( where u drink water and whey protein only) for a day.  Supposedly helps burn fat and gives a boost to metabolism.

I have never bought any of her products but has anyone heard of her? ANy experiences?

If there was a lose weight quick and keep it off formula that didn't require hard work and a firm caloric deficit do you think Oprah would battle her weight issues?  Answer that question everytime product placement and extreme weightloss 'results not typical' pictures and stories are shown.  Results are not typical because typical results are none. Eating in a caloric deficit is the only way to lose weight short of surgically.

I have read almost everything of hers and am currently using her 1-Day Diet. I have lost just over 20 pounds in the first month and I feel great. I eat less and i try to exercise regularly (I'd recommend her Efortless Exercise if you want to try to incorporate exercise into your weight loss as well). It works, and it's safe and I've recommended it to several friends who are now using it to lose weight as well. Also, if it doesn't work for you for any reason, you can get your money back as long as you get it directly from her website http://weightlossebookstore.com/

Good luck and I hope this helps you as much as it's helping me

awesome to hear that. I am also trying her one day diet TODAY. I get a bit nervous that I shall be drinking only protein water all day. But I have done it before ( a month ago) and survived. I think I lost 2 lbs next day I weighed myself and I have kept it off.

I guess the whole concept is to make the body go into ketosis, because thats how body will actually use the stored body fat as fuel and burn it off.

Unfortunately, I cannot buy any books online, but I have been following her book reviews closely. I try to read as much as I can about this author and her views.

May I ask,

1. with what frequency you have been doing this diet?

2. Do you take any fiber supplements when you are doing this diet?

3. How far away are you from your goal? How much more do you want to lose.?

For exercise, I have been doing yoga, weight training and cardio ( treadmill and elliptical). I also tried her spinning in circles exercise which was her free e-book.

1 day diet appeals to me as it is similar to DUKAN diet where one must have all protein diet once a week for the rest of one's life. Protein is good and when supplemented with lots of water, will not harm the body of a healthy person.IMHO.

I have been doing the diet every other day. I still have about 70 pounds to lose (I want to lose a total of 100 pounds by the end of the year). I haven't taken any supplements with the 1 day diet but i recently started using some of her additives, mainly green tea and lemon juice, and they seem to make it easier. The first couple time you do it, you will feel hungry at times, don't worry, this will go away after 2 or 3 times of doing it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I started with 140 lbs about 6 weeks ago. Today I weighed myself and was at 132 lbs. The only change I made was lot of protein and salads. My goal weight is 115 lbs.

This diet appeals to me because its based on metabolic trickery. I think its also called Hi/Lo diet, Carb cycling, zig-zag diet etc. If we dont do this, I have noticed weight loss will plateau inspite of reduced calories.

Good luck with your weighloss efforts. Does the author tell how many Calories one must consume on diet days, or one can drink as much protein water as one wants. I dont like restricting calories. I dont like feeling hungry.

I recently read a book "hollywood's healthiet diets" by Tony Perrone. It has 10 different diets. its a good read, just to be aware if different healthy and sensble diets around there.

Do you use unflavoured protein or one which has sucralose in it. I like to steer clear of any sweetner, as I dont like the sweet taste, plus any side effects.

She says 7-9 protein waters every 1..5-2.5 hours. Each protein water should have 10-14 ouces of water and 10-12 grams of protein. The best results come from a powder that has 20+g of protein/ serving and less than 5g of fat and carbs. I make them the night before, because I work during the day and it's hard to make them as I go. If you feel hungry at any point, drink plain water until your next water, and if you are still hungry, you can add some more protein powder to get up to 20g of protein in the water. I use the protein powder she recommended. Here's the link: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.ht ml

It's pretty cheap considering the amount youre getting, you should only need to do it for a month so I you could probably get a 2 lb jug of it for $27. There is sucralose in it so it's up to you if you want to use it. I personally use the strawberry one, it tastes great with the green tea and lemon juice.

Also, since you havent read the book, there are several additions to the diet to make it easier. Here's an excerpt from the book to explain those if you're interested:

L-TyrosineL-Tyrosine is a pre-cursor to the brain neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine.  It helps to elevate your mood and make you feel good.  It makes it mentally and emotionally easier to deal with not being able to eat any food on the 1-Day Diet Plan days.  Although you usually won’t feel hungry while on the plan, there will be points during the day where you may want to eat food out of habit. L-Tyrosine will help blunt the mental and emotional need of food. I suggest you take L-Tyrosine with either your 1st or 2nd protein water of the day. Take 3 grams… which is usually 6 pills (pills are usually 500mg each).  If you’re in the USA or Canada, here is where I buy my L-Tyrosine.  http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/now/lty.htm l  120 capsules cost $7.70 (as I write this). So if you take 6 capsules a day, it will take 20 days to use up the bottle. (Note: If you’re doing the 1-Day Diet Plan every other day and take the 6 capsules only on the 1-Day Diet Plan days and not on the food days, it will last 40 total days.) I recommend it highly. It puts you in a good mood while on the protein water days because it naturally elevates a person’s mood. If you’re not in the USA or Canada, I’m not sure where you can buy LTyrosine.  Check your local health food stores or do a search online for it.  Green TeaGreen tea by itself is excellent for long-term health and weight loss.  It helps to burn fat and increase your metabolism. The polyphenols in green tea help activate the enzymes that are responsible for burning off fat by dissolving excess triglycerides. The epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in green tea stimulates the metabolism and accelerates weight loss. So what you want to do is buy a box of green tea from your grocery store.  I personally buy a box of 20 tea bags of Carrington Green Tea from Walmart for $1.  To use them, I use about 30 ounces of water. Once the water starts to boil, I take it off and pour it into 3 canning jars that are made of glass… 10 ounces in each canning jar. Each canning jar already has 1 green tea bag in it.I let the green tea seep in the hot water for about 10 minutes and then take out the tea bags. Then I put the 3 canning jars in the fridge to let them cool off overnight. I do this the night before I do the 1-Day Diet Plan. Then the next day with the green tea cold, those 3 green teas will comprise my first 3 protein waters.  All I have to do is add 10-15 grams of protein to it and it’s ready. So essentially they are now green tea protein waters. You can’t drink these hot. They have to be cool or you’ll degrade the value of the protein. I do it the night before, but you can make the green tea whenever you like. Just make sure it’s cold to drink. One thing I want to make clear. Please don’t put hot water in any type of plastic container, including shaker bottles. The reason is because the hot water activates the Xeno-estrogens in the plastics and they will leech into the water. That’s bad. Xeno-estrogens will mess up your hormones.  So when making the green tea, please use a glass container or containers to avoid Xeno-estrogens. I recommend that you only use green tea protein waters the first 3-4 protein waters because for some people, green tea may hurt their ability to sleep if they take it within a few hours of bedtime. Right now you may be thinking that having protein waters all day without any food won’t be pleasant. Let me tell you. With L-Tyrosine and green tea… the 1-Day Diet Plan days ARE pleasant. You’ll notice you’ll be able to think more clearly. You’ll have more focus. You’ll be in a better mood. You’ll most likely be more productive. A great thing about the protein waters is that it only takes a minute to dump in the protein powder and shake it up or stir it.  So all the time you spent having to make or get food is saved too.  So these 7-9 protein waters save you time. Most people think before doing the 1-Day Diet Plan that the 7-9 protein waters would be a hassle and impractical.  But after doing it a few times and getting used to them, then these same people think making or getting food is a big hassle and start to appreciate the convenience of protein waters. Just please keep an open mind before you even try this.  Once you try the 1-Day Diet Plan and see the immediate results when you wake up the next morning, you’ll become a believer.  Ok, so remember, you can pre-make some or all of the protein waters or green tea protein waters the night before so you don’t have to spend any time making them the day you’re on the 1-Day Diet Plan.  Just make sure to have them nearby for when you need to drink them. Lemons or Lemon JuiceI normally use lemons because lemon juice has preservatives. But you can use either one. Lemon juice is quicker, easier, and more convenient to use.  Lemons and lemon juice aid in digestion… and they’re even more powerful when doing a fast. Although, the 1-Day Diet Plan obviously isn’t a traditional fast. But it is similar. Just a lot more advanced. Lemon juice and lemons act as a diuretic and help relieve excess bloating.  They’re known to enhance your mood while helping to reduce stress and depression.  Since you may not be used to not eating for 1 day, this ability to enhance your mood can’t be minimized (just like the other things mentioned in this ebook in regards to mood enhancers).  These mood enhancers will help you get through the non-food days since they work on you emotionally and mentally.  All in all, lemons or lemon juice are a great addition to the protein waters. What I do… I pour ½ ounce of lemon juice or squeeze the juice out of a lemon into each protein water.  Just to be clear, I don’t measure this out.  Basically, I just pour or squeeze a little in. Nothing scientific and nothing you need to analyze.  It adds a nice taste to the protein waters or green tea protein waters… especially if you use a strawberry flavored protein powder. But more importantly, it helps with keeping you in the right emotional state while helping put you in the right mood.  I buy my lemon juice from the grocery store. I don’t remember the exact price, but it’s really cheap… around $1.25.  I get a 32 ounce bottle of it and it lasts 2-4 weeks if you’re using the protein waters every other day.  If you get lemons instead, use 1 lemon for every 4-6 protein waters… or ½ of a lemon for every 2-3 protein waters.  Just squeeze out the juice into each one equally.  CinnamonI like to sprinkle a little cinnamon into each protein water because cinnamon lowers blood sugar levels, makes you more insulin sensitive, soothes your stomach, and has a positive effect on your brain. The lowering of blood sugar levels and helping with insulin sensitivity are both great for weight loss in general. The soothing of the stomach and positive effect on how your brain functions are great for the 1-Day Diet Plan because your stomach is kind of getting a day off from digesting foods… so the cinnamon soothing your stomach helps just in case your body doesn’t adjust to the diet immediately. The positive effect on brain function is necessary, again, because it’s emotionally and mentally hard for some people not to eat food for a day because it’s such an ingrained habit. So I recommend you try this out and sprinkle some cinnamon into your protein waters. No measuring needed. Just sprinkle a little. It’ll add to the taste of them. The one thing you should know is that cinnamon doesn’t mix well. So a lot of it will settle on top or fall to the bottom. That’s fine. Just drink it off the top or with your last sip. Shake it up or stir it in as best you can. But don’t worry if it settles on top or if it all falls to the bottom. Nicotine GumOk, this may be my most controversial suggestion. First off, if you are a former smoker, I think you should avoid this tip. If you currently smoke, you can use this tip. Most people think nicotine is the bad part of cigarettes. And most people would be wrong if they think that. Nicotine is the addictive part of cigarettes. There’s a lot of it in them. The harmful part of cigarettes is all the toxic chemicals added to them… not the nicotine. So to be clear… cigarettes are bad, nicotine in moderation is good.  What is moderation… 1-2mg of nicotine once or twice a day. (Note: There is 3-20mg of nicotine in the average cigarette. If the average person smokes 1 pack of 20 cigarettes a day, that’s at least 60mg of nicotine for the day. That is not moderation.) So as you can see, cigarette smokers get way more nicotine compared to what I’m suggesting to you.  At 1-2mg once or twice a day, that is NOT addictive.  You’ll be fine. If you’re a non-smoker like me, I’m sure you kind of get scared when you hear someone suggestion that you take nicotine. Now here’s the thing. Nicotine doesn’t cause cancer. Tobacco and the chemicals in tobacco do. Nicotine is actually used in energy drinks in Japan. The Japanese are ranked as the longest living people in the world. So nicotine won’t destroy your health. Nicotine has cognitive affects like caffeine. When both are used in moderation, they are actually good for you. Nicotine has been proven to be a metabolism booster.  Ever wonder why a lot of smokers are skinny but then when they stop smoking, they gain weight? There’s your answer right there.  They are no longer getting nicotine. That results in a slowing down of their metabolism. So how do I suggest you use nicotine? First, buy a box full of nicotine gum that is 1-2mg. Don’t buy the ones that have 4mg per piece of gum.  That’s too much. If you’re in the USA, you can get it at Walgreens, CVS, or Walmart.  If you’re not in the USA, I’m not sure where you can get it.  But I’m sure nicotine gum is around.  I suggest that you take nicotine gum only if you feel a little “off” while on the protein waters.  If this happens, it usually happens in the mid to late afternoon. So pop in a piece of nicotine gum and chew on it for 20-30 minutes. It usually takes about 30 minutes for the gum to empty out all the nicotine.  Because the nicotine is absorbed through the mouth and into the blood, the mood-enhancing affects are pretty fast.  You should feel re-energized and be in a better mood. That’s what you want.  You want to feel great while on the protein waters. What I personally found best (and it’s different for each person based on all the feedback we’ve gotten) is to take the 3 grams of L-Tyrosine in the morning with the 2nd protein water and then chew a piece of nicotine gum for 20-30 minutes after the 4th protein water. Consider this about nicotine gum…Smokers who are trying to quit smoking are told to chew 10-24 pieces of nicotine gum. As you can see, 1 piece of nicotine gum is nowhere near that amount. It is well below a dose that would become addictive.  To put things in perspective… nicotine and caffeine are very similar.  If you drank a lot of caffeine all the time you get addicted to it. Same with nicotine. But in moderate or low doses, both caffeine and nicotine are actually beneficial to people. Now, do you have to use nicotine gum? Of course not. It’s just a suggestion that I think would help a lot of people. But it’s not necessary if you don’t want to use it. The only drawback in my opinion is cost. Although costs are different, generally speaking, nicotine gum is kind of expensive. 40 pieces of the 2mg nicotine gum at my local drug store cost $15.  But actually, for use on the 1-Day Diet Plan protein water days only… it lasts a long time. 40 pieces of gum would last for 40 of the 1-Day Diet Plan days… 40 days!  Since you can’t do the protein waters 2 days in a row, that means the gum would last at least 80 days if you did the 1-Day Diet Plan every other day. Anyway, the nicotine gum like all these other 1-Day Diet Plan enhancers is just a suggestion and not 100% needed on this plan in order to lose weight. But it does help… and sometimes, like the first few times you do the plan, nicotine gum can be a huge mental and emotional help for you. It’s worth giving a try.  Just keep an open mind.

Awesome, I will add limes to my water ( next time). Also a pinch of cinnamon would be fine.

Heard a lot about green tea and its anti-oxidants benefits. But it has caffein in it. I never drink tea, coffee so I am always caffein free. But I heard caffein in small amounts is actually good for you.

So perhaps I will add some caffein to my diet by getting some green tea.

thanks a bunch.

This diet is similar to DUKAN which is high protein/ low fat/ low carb diet. ATKINS is high protein/high fat/ low carb diet.

What kind of diet do you follow on alternate days. Is it  "eat anything and everything" or is it still "watch what you are eating" diet

I do the green teas for the first 3, that way there isn't too much caffeine and I'm able to fall asleep at night. Play around with it and ease into it to find out what works best for you. I will admit, I tried the cinnamon the first couple times and hated it. It doesn't mix in so you get a mouthfull of it in your last sip, which to me was disgusting. (I have a hard time with strange textures and when you're expecting a liquid it can catch you off guard). Try it for the first day or 2 but if you dont like it, just stop using the cinnamon, don't let it turn you away from the diet itself.

Just an update. I did the diet yesterday. Drank a total of 9 servings of protein.

I weighed myseld today. Have lost 2 lbs. So I am sitting at 130 lbs today :) woohooo.

And surprisingly, no constipation this morning. I had eggs for breakfast. Also almond milk+protein powder+ salad ( yeah, for breakfast).

Can I reapeat this diet tomorrow. I was wodering if I can do this diet with a combo of protein powder and egg whites.

Anyways, I am happy to hit the 130 lbs mark. stomach felt flatter. Jiggly belly is slowly going away. I want to wear pretty dresses and not be concious of belly fat. I am sure I can do it. Thanks for your replies. And all the best for your weightloss efforts. Slowly and Surely, we can do it :)

Congrats on your first day! Don't be upset if you gain a little back today, it's normal. I usually lose 2-3 pounds and then gain about 1 lb the next day. It's just water weight fluctuation so don't let it discourage you.

You can do the diet as often as every other day, just don't do it 2 days in a row. Also, don't eat anything (even egg whites) on the protein days. Its a form of fasting so eating anything will ruin the whole day.

Keep it up, you'll make it to your goal, maybe even in the next month of 2 if you keep up with this diet

I am at 130 lbs now. Doing the diet today again. Drinking plenty of water. Is it okay to exercise on the day of the fast?

How has your progress been so far. My 8 year old commented that my stomach looks flatter and my clothes look prettier on my. ( Now that I can dare to wear some body hugging tops :)

Still have to lose fat from thighs and some from the arms. still 15 lbs away from my goal.

You can workout while doing the fast. I do a little less on those days, but it's more because I use it as my rest day, than because I don't have the energy. It definitely helps speed up the weight loss and make it more noticeable to you and people around you.

Something from one of her other books, for the arm jiggle, put your arms out to your sides (like an airplane) and spin them in small circles (6-12 inches in diameter). Do that for 2-5 minutes a day and it will get rid of the excess flab. I do it almost every day, it's kind of slow but it definitely helps.

As for my progress, I think I'm finally getting over my plateau. I lost 2 pounds last week, which is slower than it had been, but it's still progress. My boyfriend is staying with me this week so hopefully he'll get me out running a bit more and help speed it along a bit more.

Congrats at your progress and good luck achieving your goal!

I think, my weight loss is also a bit slow now. I did the fast yesterday and lost maybe a pound or so.

I feel, that on the days I do the fast, I get very tired towards the end of the day. I need a lot of sleep. Sometimes I also get headaches. I am not sure if I can do this fast every other day. Maybe I should do it once a week.

Do you eat normal food on non-diet days? Like breads, pasta, rice etc. Or stick with all healthy salads etc.

Carbs are also important. I am reading a book called carb cycling where you do just that. I try to eat oatmeal and wild rice for my carbs. I am also taking fish oil and CLA. Are you taking a multivitamin?

Try lifting weights. I think it helps with fat loss and toning better than cardio and simple running. Walking on an incline is also a good exercise.

You can do it every other day, thats what I've been doing. I do sometimes get tired when im doing it, but the green tea really helps because it has enough caffeine to keep me from slowing down. Once a week will work as well, but another option is twice a week, so every 3-4 days.

I eat mostly normal food on non-diet days, but I try to cut out a lot of the carbs and stick with healthier foods. I eat 2 eggs with wheat toast or a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast, a salad with either tuna or leftover meat from dinner for lunch, and then dinner i eat whatever I want. That way I'm guaranteed 2 healthy meals a day, but I don't feel deprived because I can eat what I want at night, just in moderation. I also keep grapes at my desk at work so if I get hungry throughout the day, I can eat those, rather than having to go to the vending machines to get chips or something like that.

I also take fish oil pills, but other than that I don't take any multivitamins, but I also have a farmers market nearby where I get all my vegetables and meats, so it's better for me than pretty much anything I could get at a grocery store.

Have you looked at her 12 hour flat belly diet solution.? Wouldn't it be nice if we could lose fat and build muscle while we sleep or something :)

I wonder what she is offering in her book.

How is your fatloss coming up so far. How many diet days have you had. I am planning to do the diet tomorrow. I am eating healthy but I am plateauing at 129 lbs. I wish I  could lose 14 more lbs to have a lean body.

That's her newest book and I actually haven't read it yet but I will soon. I'll let you know what I find out

Out of curiosity, I read the book last night. The basic idea of the diet is to have 3 protein waters, 3-4 hours apart starting when you wake up, and have dinner 3-4 hours after your last protein water. You can then have a fourth protein water after dinner if you have a long gap of time between dinner and the time you go to bed and feel hungry.

Each protein water should have 30 grams of protein in it and 20-30 ounces of water. The optional fourth one should be a smaller one (like with the 1-day diet).

You can do this diet every day, or she recommends bridging the two diets by doing the 12 hour diet one day, then the 1 day diet, then eating like normal on the third day, and repeating until you've lost all the weight you need to.

For me personally, my boyfriend spent last week with me so i didnt have much time for dieting (especially with him eating delicious food in front of me so I'm still at the 208 that I was a couple weeks ago but I'm starting dieting again and I'm actually doing the 12 hour diet today and I'm going to try to bridge the two diets, since I still have a lot of weight to lose. Let me know how it goes for you and I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I did the diet yesterday and weighed myself today at 127.5 lbs. It was kind of nice to see my weight in 120s after a long time.

I am also doing weight training with a gym buddy to make sure I am losing fat and not muscle while doing all these diets.

I would recommend you reading "hollywood's healthiest diets" by Tony Perrone. ( I got from library). It has 10 diets listed and how they work. Tony Perrone is also a big advocate of Whey Protein Isolate.

Anyways, here is another supplement I am reading about called BCAA (brached chain Amino Acid). I am thing of having it before & after my workouts.'

Just google "whey protein, BCAA and bikini" comes up with and why women must supplement with BCAA

Also google "intermittant fasting and BCAAs"

good luck. I get very tired after one day diet so I might try 12 hour diet.

Congrats on getting into the 120s! I also did the diet yesterday and weighted myself at 1.4 pounds lighter (even during my period) so i was excited.

Jennifer Jolan talks about BCAAs in one of her books and says that Leucine is the most important of the different BCAAs and recommends that you take 5 grams before each meal which im going to start doing as soon as it gets here (I ordered it online). Apparently it tastes horrible but it will essentially make all the bad things in the food work to do good in your body. Its much cheaper to buy than BCAA supplements so I'm going to try it for now and maybe switch to the regular supplements later if I feel I need it.

This is interesting that she specifies how much protein one can have per meal. When I am doing one day diet, I just drink my protein water, whenever I am feeling hungry. Of course I am consuming a lot of water on diet days, because I mix it up in water. I have to pee a LOT on diet days.

Tony Perrone says. Never on a diet should you feel hungry. If you are hungry for more than 15-20 mins its too late. So you should grab some protein to eat, every time you are hungry. Let your body guide you how much protein you need.

Also, its okay to indulge in fruits and healthy carbs on non-diet days. I have re-started eating fruits now. The whole concept of carb cycling comes into picture here. This keeps metabolism up. (metabolic trickery)

Thanks for telling about leucine. I will research it.
