Do you hit the gym when you're tired?

So, here I was, starting this new exercise program for 2010- when I hit a bump within the first week.

I'm supposed to run 4 times per week, but this week, I only ran 3. (There were some complications and I couldn't go to the track yesterday.) So I took a step back and said, "That's alright. I'll make up today's workout tomorrow and just be one day behind."

Well....... then last night, my fiance' decided that he wanted to meet some friends at a club, so we went out (and stayed out) for much longer than we should have. All in all, today I woke up tired and grumpy, and all I want to do is crawl in bed and watch TV all day long.

But at the same time, I know that I should go running! If I don't go today, then I'll be two days behind. I've also been told on this site over in the fitness section that it's bad to take two days off in a row.

I WOULD go to the gym, but if I'm not going to be giving my workout my all, what's the point? I'll definitely go the rest of the week. And my diet is on target today, so it's not like I'm doing too much damage.

I just don't know what to do. I feel conflicted- do I go to the gym and be unhappy and tired? Or do I stay home, be comfy and relaxed, yet feel guilty for not going to the gym? Aye, I think I'm half-crazy!

I have the same problem sometimes.  When I'm tired and don't feel like going, I make myself and then at some point during the workout I start to feel better.  Even if you aren't giving your workout your all that's better than nothing right?  I'd rather do some of a workout than nothing at all just to ease some of the guilt. Plus it'll make you feel better about yourself I think.  At least it does for me.

I went to the gym today and was nooottt feeling it either. but i made myself go.. and you know what... i felt great during and after. there was a spot 40 minutes in where i just kind of flagged... but then i went back up and i haven't come back down all day yet..

i got a cold yesterday and had a really bad sleep all night so i was really tired and REALLLLYYY didn't want to go to the gym (especially since it's a 30 minute walk in the snow).. but i did!! yay!

I feel like this sometimes.. if i miss a day.. or ate really bad or something.. i have a litt "i don wanna" moment.. but then i just do it.. for me it's about habit.. if i start not going when i'm tired.. or not walking up to my apt when it's been a long day and using the elevator instead.. i get into the habit of it.. and i don't want to be in the habit of getting lazy anymore lol

I bought a tredmill and stuck that baby right in front of the TV so I have no choice but to look at it :) and this makes me jump on every time.

I do suffer from the same problem, but I find that if I actually take the time to work out even if I'm tired I feel good.  Don't get stuck on the catch up game though cause then you'll just bum yourself out.  You just have to think I'll do better next wk.Wink

I'd recommend reading this article to you, and all the other people who have posted here too. It didn't change my whole entire life, but it certainly changed my thinking about exercising. I hope you find it useful!

How to think like an exerciser

SOMETIMES going to the gym wakes me up! You could give it a try? If it doesn't work, do a minimum workout, and don't feel bad. At least you've tried.

I used to shy away from the gym when I was feeling run down or just had 'crappy' day.  But I quickly found how much better a good workout made me feel afterward.  Getting those endorphins going does wonders for my energy and my mood!
