Doing so well in my weight loss, but all of my friends are going out for dinner and they're going to Outback Jacks and I want to join them without over indulging or having too much. I thought I would have the salads, but I'm not that into them and I'm trying to raise my iron intake. Please, please tell me what you would eat to stay on track.
(Sorry about previous link)
Sorry to be such a drama queen, it's just that this will be my first "out" meal since I started this. I'm allowing myself some room for calories, of course. What would you recommend I have/do?
Order what ever you want to eat. Ask for a container when they bring your food. Package up have and enjoy for lunch the next day.
Why go out and spend money if you are not getting what you want to eat?
Sorry about that link. I think that should work now.
It's basically a steak house, most of the entree meals (my auto go-to) are covered in oil and sugary/salty sauces.
You make a good point SC, it's just that of those choices, I'm pretty clueless about what I want in general. I take ages to pick something at the best of times, so suggestions are most welcome. I'll also take a container ;)
Eat whatever you want. I'd never go to a steak house and eat a salad. You've got to be flexible and have some fun if you are going to do this for life. As someone else said, you don't need to eat everything they serve you, since portions tend to be out of control at these places (at least in the U.S.). You can always take half the meal home.
You can get a reasonable size portion at outback. They have 6oz steaks and healthy side options. You can also order what you want and share it or have some the next day.
Mmmm. I'd definitely go for a steak. The Jaquies Cut sounds delish! Either that or Jaquies Bulldust Coated Steak.
Or I'd take the Jack's Challenge. ;)
I just went to apple bees for my sisters birthday. I got a 6 oz sirloin and broccoli. Just ask for them to cook it plain... steak is wonderful with out all that crap too. And there are healthy options for sides. I would take this as an opportunity to learn how to eat out rather than just eating whatever you want. If you are truly transforming your diet and the way you eat... pick smart! Steak is lean and a good option. When I was looking at Applebees options the salads were just as many calories as the 6 oz sirloin. Just remember the things that are high calorie and leave them out - cheese, oily dressings - etc.

You can ask for your steak to be free or oil or butter and sauce. Just plain, is fine and there is nothing wrong with a steak now and then, pick a lean cut like filet or sirloin for best results. You can also ask for modification on your sides as well. I eat out a lot as I am on the road for work and have client meetings, I have never had a restaurant not accommodate my request for a "healthier" version of a dish. Good luck!
I haven't either. Even if I ask if they can grill it, no oil, and steam the veg no butter or oil or seasonings, it comes out right. Customers always right. Find the ingredients you like and tell them to stick them on a plate, just not oily or buttery.
What to Eat
Dynamite Prawns no rice Big Salad
Atlantic Salmon Big Salad
And how to eat it is important too.
Have the salad first, One glass of water the salad and then Another water
If you have appetizer the Dynamite Prawns, and share them
Eat Slow as possible, chew the food until it is like a puree. Dont eat it all
Most chain restaurants have the nutritional info on their website. Before I go I go through and select what Ill eat or pick three options and decide when I'm there. Also pay close attention to sodium level. They can be really outrageous (Olive Garden's Chicken Parmagiana has over 3500 mg of sodium! Yikes). Then plan on taking at least half home with you. I'm with the ones that said to go ahead and have a steak and enjoy yourself!
Whatever you eat, remember that your stomach is meant to be the size of your fist. What I do is cut it into portion sizes. Like this pizza = 4 fist sizes. Then eat only one fist size and think about how you'll be eating two meals if you eat another portion. Also order a salad and eat a fist of that first. Even if you don't like it you need to eat fiber because when you eat meat it stays in your system longer without veggies and increases your risk of colon cancer. not fun!!
