someone told me that if you feel hungry, (or maybe a bit to the extreme, like very hungry) it's because your metabolism is increasing... like speeding up.
i know this wouldn't always be true, because if it were to be always true, then we would not be gaining weight from eating when we're hungry!!!! LOL
so what do you guys say about this? do you think it's a reasonable explanation for some types of hunger??
help me out because im having trouble distinguishing between real hunger and just boredom!!! and if i were to really eat, cuz i believe i am truly hungry, it would be nice to know that my metabolism is increasing right? HAHA!!!

Ok, this is a tricky one because I always assumed that your body tells you when you're hungry ie tummy grumbles = eat. However, I recently heard that sometimes your tummy grumbles in reponse to your intestines just doing their everyday functions. Like the growling doesn't necessarily mean you're hungry, it just means your belly is functioning. I don't necessarily believe this, because I've always assumed that when your tummy growls, you should probably eat. What I would suggest is that you determine your daily calorie intake. Establish the times of day when you need to eat based on when your metabolism needs a boost. For example, I eat my daily breakfast at about 8:30-9am. I have a low cal snack around 10 to curb my lunch appetite which I eat at 11am. In the afternoon, I might have a snack around 2-3pm then dinner between 5-7pm. That way, I don't really GIVE my stomach time to tell me when I'm hungry. As long as I track my calories, I don't really have extreme hunger... it just becomes a rhythm of food intake.
That said, when you factor in exercising, your body will naturally readjust itself to accomodate the calorie deficit your body produces from the calories you're burning. If you're exercising regularly, factor that into your daily intake and you'll find that you do indeed require more calories. So yes, your belly will let you know it needs sustinence. Just try not to take advantage of this newfound hunger, and absolutely don't let it get out of control. I know there have been times where I exercise ALOT and supplement those extra calories to fill my newfound appetite, but I've also gotten out of control and had a negative effect.

Hunger and appetite are controlled by a complex system of hormone-like substances primarily made by your digestive system. When you haven't eaten for a while, these substances are released and cause a part of your brain called the hypothalamus to "switch on" your desire to eat. A message is then sent to your stomach and intestines. This triggers muscle contractions and the release of acids and other digestive fluids — which causes the rumbling, grumbling sounds you hear — as your body prepares for you to eat. The thought, sight or smell of food also can trigger this response from your intestines.
Sometimes excessive stomach noise can be a symptom of an underlying gastrointestinal disorder such as irritable bowel syndrome. But in such cases, stomach noise usually is accompanied by other signs and symptoms such as bloating, cramping, diarrhea or excess gas.
