I sometimes drink slimfasts just for snacks, maybe like 3 times a day, to fill in my calorie limit and get my protein in. But i eat food on the side. My sister swears up and down that eating food in addition to drinking slimfasts will make you gain weight, and that it made her gain weight.
So if i wanna do slimfasts, i have do it with only eating snacks (real food) in addition...
This sounds flawed to me because theyre 180 calories a shake, its all calories in vs.alories out, right? I dont get how anyone could think eating food in addition to slimfasts would make them fat. Its like calories dont even matter, just certain things make you FAT.
This seems like such bullcrap to me. Am i right? xD
slimfast is essentially empty calories. it won't make you fat any more than other calories will, but you're better off just to drink a glass of milk.
I enjoy a protein or meal replacement shake once in a while but quit buying slimfast products because of the high sugar content, hydrogenated oils and other non-food chemicals and ingredients. I prefer the shake called "Reset" where you can mix your own liquids in it and it's sweetened with Stevia.
See slimfast ingrdients taken from their official website (shudders):

The truth about slimfast is you need to cover up the S and the truth is known SLIM FAT
the stuff is loaded with sugars and crap you dont need to be putting into your body to lose fat. You can actually gain a lot of weight by eating it.
I would be Leary of what any big company says will help you when they are only about bottom line and making dollars...taking your dollars.
eat good old fashion quality foods. not meal in a box.
People for thousands of years were healthy before things like slimfat.
But hey, it has a catchy name and it must work because the people who make millions off it say so right? so it must be ok cause they say so and the more money I give them and the more they tell me it works. Despite the results that dont work... So it has to be true right? It has to be, no big corporation would ever lie to people when money is involved, that would be unethical and we all know that no one would ever ever ever be unethical when it comes to taking your money.
Its key to look at the quality of the calories you put in your body not just the numbers. Anything with added sugars, avoid like the plague, literally, it will make you sick, and in time, die.
i'v heard of anorexic girl's in recovery drinking slim fast to gain weight faster, sorry but from what i hear it works to
Visit the Slim-Fast website and you will see that they encourage eating real food also.
Actually I think meal plans are shown on the box container of snack bars. They don't recommend just taking slim fast.
I suggest you don't do the slim fast its like the special k crap they have so,they can sell.REMEMBER the diet industry makes 12 billion from consumers like you.Who are desperate and needy. What you need is some real food.Instead of drinking the slimfast you should eat a tuna salad or something in the under 2oo calorie range.Or egg whites.
they both have tons of suger and other stuff. It won't make you FAT IS WHEN YOU STOP..my sister inlaw used to do it once a year..its been around for long time and she gained weight when she stopped and only lost 8 lbs in one week and all she ate was the shakes and 4 pieces of fruit and walk.
I ve only lost weight one time in my adult life(2nd time after baby) so,I am lucky that diets have nto been part of my life. When I was 180 with first child all I ever ate was fruits and veggies and sweet poatoes and tons of green tea and water and worked out with the tony little gazelle and in 1 yr came down to 107 lbs.
now 2nd baby gain more damm weight and is coming off the same way but.I have to combine biking and stepping for toning and its a lot of work regardless and 2 times a week do some turbojam.
I am eating every 3-4 hrs like my baby mostly snacking on fruits and veggies predone a week ahead in little lunch bags..It controls portions and keeps me full.As protien mostly tuna, oysters and I STAY AWAY FROM CHICKEN honestly made me bloated and beef..ok all meat just not fish and get my vit d from prenatal vit.
not everyone has the will power to give up some stuff and add it later. But,so far it is helping make me lose weight little better and my skin is not lookinh bad either.
Ok so basically you're telling me by drinking slimfasts for snacks i'll gain weight even though im within my calorie limit?
No, I don't think that's what people are saying. I think they are saying that slim fast shakes are filled with crap and you'd be healthier eating the real food and skipping the shake.
i drink one can of slimfast every day. i like that it has protein (10g) and potassium (600mg) and fiber (5g) and vitamins in addition to the sugar. it's also low in cholesterol (5mg) and not too bad on the sodium (220mg). i'm not suggesting it or condemning it. it's certainly not "clean", but i think it's better than a snickers bar.
No, you're not going to gain weight if you stay within your calorie limit, and while Slim Fast certainly isn't the best thing you could be eating, it's not the worst either. I personally wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole, but really, that's more my own personaly preference than concern over its detrimental health effects. That said, it would probably be a hell of a lot cheaper and healthier to drink chocolate milk if you want a similar snack.
slimfast shakes are meant as meal replacements. So yes, eating food on top of them will make you gain weight. However calorie wise if you are still being reasonable with your food you may stay within your limit.
But overall i wouldnt recommend drinking Slimfast in addition to eating meals not only because of caloric reasons, but it just isn't healthy.
If anything i recommend drinking a slimfast in the morning as breakfast. I did this for months and lost alot of weight! It kept me full for a couple hrs, enough to get a workout in , then have a 100 cal snack then continue on your daily routine (lunch, snack, dinner).
Like people have said, sure, they are terrible for you because of all of the sugars and fake chemicals in them. People gain weight with them because my cousin once said "Slim Fast is stupid, I have a shake with my breakfast and lunch and I haven't lost a single pound." I think the people that are gaining weight with them think they will magically work including eating whatever they want with them.
Take in less calories than you burn and you will lose weight. Whether those calories are from Slimfasts, Slimfast + food, whatever.
However, what really stands out to me about your post is this:
"I sometimes drink slimfasts just for snacks, maybe like 3 times a day, to fill in my calorie limit and get my protein in."
Slimfast shakes are what? 190-200 calories per can? So this tells me that you are getting like 600 calories a day just from Slimfast shakes. I don't know about you, but that would be almost a third of my daily calorie intake just from a liquid that is full of sugar and chemicals. That doesn't leave a whole lot of room for "real food" and all the nutrients, fiber and other benefits that they provide.
I'm just thinking about all the vegetables and eggs and yogurt and fruit and beans and meats, etc that you could be eating with those extra 600 calories a day. So much healthier, and I've always heard that a varied and diverse diet is more successful and better for you than eating too much of any one thing.
You don't have to give up Slimfast altogether if you like it that much. I can understand the convenience of having a high protein, vitamin-filled drink every once in a while. But I'm going to urge you to cut it back to once a day, or maybe just a couple of times per week and find some healthy whole food alternatives. I guarantee you that you will find that you have more energy and feel better if you do, and it is always easier to lose weight and burn calories when your body is functioning at its highest performance.
Just something to think about.
Alright I see. Perhaps only having them on emergency is best.
Alright I see. Perhaps only having them on emergency is best.
ahhhh....no, pour that $ H I T down the drain! donate it to those less fortunate. give them to your enemies.
water water water and quality foods. I would not consider something that has so many chemicals even in an emergency, correct planing will keep emergency's from happening.
If we lived in a post apocalyptic world and it was kill or die for calories, like eat your pets or the guy next door, that would be different. But we do live in the land of milk and honey and plenty...and hence how we gained fat.
I recently been using the Special K Protein Drink Mix. It's 30 calories and does a pretty good job of killing off cravings.
Hi, I have been using slim fast for 2 weeks and gained 4 pounds, so angry this morning, I have been doing everything I thought was correct, I even cut out my morning coffee and my red bulls. I had a shake in the morning, an apple in between lunch, and shake for lunch and a salad for dinner with 2 table spoons of ranch dressing, 120 oz of water and an hour of exercise a day, and somehow I gained instead of lost. I will never use slim fast again..................
There is no food that objectively makes you gain weight (or causes you to lose weight). Eating less calories than you burn makes you lose weight. Its that simple
A slimfast shake or any other kind of shake can absolutely fit into a weight loss plan. The problem arises when you drink too many. When you drink too many of your calories, you have little room left for actual food. So what happens when you get truly hungry? You overeat and overshoot your calorie number.
An example I use is milk. I love milk and drink it all the time, especially when I'm trying to gain muscle weight. But when I'm trying to cut fat and lose weight, I can't be drinking 3 glasses of 2% milk a day, like I usually do. That's 360 calories right off the bat that would barely satiate me at all. 360 calories could have been a full meal of chicken, rice and veggies. So you see the problem. When you drink too many of your calories when trying to lose weight, its a recipe for blowing your calorie deficit.
