There is a marked disruption in quality restorative sleep even though one feels "knocked out". Next day drowsiness and reduced performance is the result of insufficient sleep.Safe drinking limits are 2 (beers, glasses wine, 1.5 oz spirits) per day max. However wt. loss requires low glycemic (e.g. red wine) and limit of 1 or none (if serious).
Drinking as in alcohol or just normal fluids?  The only thing I found with non alcohol is that "... excessive drinking prior to bed can overwhelm the bladder, requiring frequent visits to the bathroom"

I know if I drink too much water an hour or 2 before I go to sleep I wake up at least once to have to go to the bathroom.  As for alcohol it acts as a natural depressant which makes you sleepy, but it also is a diuretic like caffienated beverages are and can make you pee a lot too.  If you wanna drink something before bed that won't wake you up to pee, drink some milk it gives you a good supply of slow digesting nutrients to feed your body when you sleep and won't make your bladder get filled up.

~ yep, water!!!!!! water water water water water water water water water!!

~ ooh.. well you see, what i heard about drinking too much water right before going to bed is that your body won't "digest" (if that's even possible!) the water like it normally does... and ur stomach'll stretch really badly.... Sealed

what do you say?

~ Undecided i find it weird that... when i drink a lot of water before going to bed, i don't wake up in the middle of the night... instead, when i wake up in the morning, i head straight to the bathroom and i can actually get the opportunity to TIME myself peeing................ >>>>>>>>> GEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!! Embarassed

Don't do what I did and try to get in 2 liters of water from 5pm till 9pm. Needless to say I woke up rushing to the bathroom 4X to pee and then at 4Am........oops I didn't make it to the bathroom Embarassed

I'm sticking to 64 ounces. That day I had 4 liters 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening.

I drink a lot of water during the day. And right before bed I drink a good size glass of water right before bed (10-16oz). I have been doing this since June and I have not had any middle of the night runs to the bathroom or any accidents. Also it has not hurt my weight loss at all.
Why would it be horrible? Your body keeps on working while you're asleep... the only bad thing is that if you drink too much you'll be awake at 2am/4am/6am to go to the bathroom because your bladder's full!

It's an interesting question but I don't give it a thought. If I have to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, it's no big deal. I go back to sleep easily. In fact, I can got to the bathroom and barely wake up at all. ;-)

Now, guys, (I don't know about women) if you have to get up multiple times, you want to have your prostate checked.

the only thing it does it make you piss in the middle of the night

Laughing HAHAHAHHA you made me laugh when i read the part about you not making it tothe bathroom on time!!  i hope you only did that like once or twice!!!

Lets just say I won't be drinking 2 liters of water before bed anymore LOL

The only negative side effect that I can think of would be having to wake up and go to the bathroom, which could result in loss of sleep (if frequent enough) and perhaps make you feel sluggish the next day.

Though, on the upside, if you drink enough water before going to bed, you probably won't get dehydrated during sleep. I often find that I wake up dehydrated if I don't drink something close to bed time.

I don't see it as having any real direct effect on weight loss.

I have a question about this topic also, (I'm sorry if I'm hijacking the thread :/) but I was wondering if you are a big water drinker in general and end up having a lot of the water at night, how it will affect weigh-ins in the morning? Or if most of the time if you pee in the middle of the night or right before you weigh yourself if that is most of the water in your system so you are getting an accurate weight? Personally I have to get up almost every night, I'm just cursed with an itsy bitsy bladder and a propensity to drink lots of water (or else I get really dehydrated!) But if also been taking in more liquids than usual (including soup, so maybe it's just the sodium?) and haven't been seeing too much weight loss (although I'm losing but I'm still in the beginning and over the past week only seen a half pound loss), even though I'm decreasing my calories.
unless someone has a bed wetting problem i think it's fine lol. I actually have a water bottle beside my bed because sometimes i wake up in the night because i'm thirsty, and i usually drink half a bottle and go back to sleep.
maybe cause I'm older and have had 2 kids...... if I drink water before bed I'm up, which is annoying.

I've been noticing........I drink my 8-9 glasses of water and finish around 7:00 pm.........and I'm up at least 3x during the night although I go right back to sleep.

I'm going to try and finish my water by 3-5 pm and see if that makes a difference.
I worked out right before bed last night... and of course that caused me to drink a whole lot of water before bed last night.  I wasn't able to go to sleep until 2:00 because I made trip after trip to the restroom.  I literally went down 9 pounds of water from weighing before bed to getting up this morning.  From now on I am going to try and workout earlier!
It depends on your bladder and if you are ok with getting up during the night.  I try to drink enough at least 2 hours before bedtime because if I wake up I often can't get back to sleep.  But I have friends who keep a big cup of water right by the bed and they drink all night, every time they wake up, and have no problem with it.
