How to determine your bone structure size?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm scared that when I manage to reach my UGW, I won't be "tiny" and end up looking like Jillian Michaels (she's gorgeous and all, but she doesn't have that petite figure and she never will even if she did not work out as much- she said so herself, btw).

I googled it, and a lot of people tell you to wrap your middle finger and thumb around your wrist etc. Well, to be honest, I don't think that's very accurate.

Imagine Person A weighs 180 lbs and is obese according to the BMI. "A" most probably has excess fat on his/her wrist, therefore, the middle finger and thumb wouldn't reach. However, if Person A weighed 120 lbs instead, his/her middle finger and thumb might or might not reach. Obese people can't really tell if they'll look "big-boned" once they lose weight merely by measuring their wrist and whatnot. Catch my drift? If not, I totally get you, I rarely make any sense lol

So, back to my question: is there any way how I can determine what my body size is? If that wrist thing IS accurate, then I'm a medium to small frame 'cause my middle and thumb finger reach and almost overlap. I know it seems stupid that I'm scared that I won't look like a waif once I reach my UGW, so I'm sorry for making you read all this.

Happy weekend! C: x

I'm not sure about the wrist thing but... There's nothing you can do about your genetics, so why worry? Worrying about things you can't control is an easy way to an unhappy life.

i mean my ribcage is about 36 ish inches if im pulling it tight, and im female, so i know im larger(my ribcage sticks out, btw)so i guess something obvious like that. it wouldnt really make more of a difference than 30 lbs ish max(which is a lot but once you get down to 150 ish youd know)

The wrist thing is a quick estimate and no isn't the most accurate, measure your wrist (with measuring tape) or elbow width and use an online calculator. I for one wrist test fingers over lap (small frame) and measure at about 6.2inchs (and 5'8") and by most online calculators claims a small frame. But really still some calculators put me at medium and I think even one cal put me at large. But know that all if not most online cals are estimates and not completely accurate too.

Here are a bunch of sites that use wrist/elbow measurements and your height/sex and some give me different answers but as I approach medium frame ideal (I am 145lbs, 5'8", female if medium frame ideal 140-144lbs and small 130-134, my goal is 135lbs at this time) for my height I know I am more small or medium/small.

http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/fsz (puts me between small and medium cause they don't allow for my exact wrist measurement I am between 6-1/8inches - 6-1/4inches)
